56k.
Actually, it depends where you're located and how far away from the "station" you are for DSL.

Optimum Online.
I have noticed situations with my satellite tv where if the weather is bad, I lose reception, so I am skeptical of the capabilities of satellite for internet. |

i only use DSL but i voted cable cause it really is the best.
however in order for me to have cable i hafta sign up for digital cable as well... which starts at 48 a month plus 40 a month for cable internet. total 88 a month. whereas i use my $20 phone line with 39 a month dsl and get comparable speeds, pings, etc. total 59 a month. which would you choose |

it all sucks. big corporations charging outrageous prices in exchange for bad service, and limited capabilities. In a perfect world, I would chose cable. best hardline broadband a civilian can get.

i love dsl. but cable offers faster speeds. which makes it the best.
however it is so far overpriced it outrageous. but we aren't discussing prices.. we are talking technically which is better. |

That's funny. Here, DSL would cost me $5 more per month than my cable, plus I'd have to get a phone line instead of just using my cell. Cable is much cheaper, and I save another $10/month when i buy digital cable with it.

Check you speed http://dfw.speakeasy.net/ That's probably the most accurate test I've come across. Also do a tracert and see if you losing alot of packets at a certain point. Check out http://www.visualware.com/download/index.html . That should help you out.

Use the Visual Route program I gave you the link to. Look in the packet loss column. That's the important part.

Wow. Those are HORRIBLE latencies.
Here's a link to what mine looks like. http://www.digitaldeviation.com/vsreport/report.html Granted I have less hops since I'm closer, but the latencies never go above 100. You need to have TW look into this.
