Junk Yard SCORE!!

First off, who here goes to junk yards to find parts??

I just started doing this when I got me Civic, and have found amazing stuff. So far I found about 8 oil coolers, 3 turbo's, several gauge clusters, and numerous other things...

But today I scored big. I found the rear end of a 90' Integra w/ sway bar. For those of you who don't know, the rear end Integra's bolt onto the Civics of my year so that I can have rear disk brakes... SCORE!!

Great! I frequent junkyards myself. I like pulling stuff out myself rather than having the yard workers do it. I pulled out a Garrett T25 and a set of 450cc DSM injectors. I sell most of them on the internet to make CASH. The other day, my buddy beat me 5 minutes to a 90 integra with a set of Neuspeed springs, DC sports short ram intake, and a dynomax exhaust. He claimed pretty much everything to include the rear disc brake assembly.....

See the junk yard that I goto is pretty good. The guys themself's won't pull shit for you. Before they even put the cars in the JY they are striped of most good items, especially if the car is newer. Like todays Integra, the engine was just tourched right out. Only reason i got the rear end is because no one could tell what the car was. The front end was missing, and the rest of the car was f**ked cause the driver wrapped it around a telephone poll or something. So i got lucky.

Don't know really the best way to find them, this one is off the freeway so that's how i noticed it. I go about once a month. Last time I walked with a rhb5 turbo that i turned around for $250.

How much did you pay for it? I just might start hitting up the junkyards and try to make a little cash.

I got a pair of front teg seats for 20 bucks at one of the junkyards by me....

only problem is they're from a pre 94 and I have a 92-95 civic. so they don't fit without me cutting off and rewelding on the end brackets. that and they're brown.

damn nice seats though.. they'll get in there one day

I just recently got some 15" rims off a 85 prelude(aftermarket), a spoiler from a crx (also aftermarkt), a center console off of another hatch like mine (i've claimed this hatch as my own) and all sorts of extras (new jack out the rex, emblems and shift knobs.

My junkyards don't usually have any decent stuff, but the biggest one around here (peoria) likes to hide all of their hondas behind this huge barn. Its a secret!

I told my friend that I found a 92prelude at this one junkyard, the same one that I got the integra ECU from, and we went down there and got about $800 dollars worth of interior parts for $25!

so how does going to a junkyard work anyway... you just walk around, get stuff, and check out?

Brocc: This one is up in the valley, over by the burbank media center.

Wab: You pay two bucks to go in and browse, most people bring their tools, and then when you find someting you can either just pull it, or ask the price and pull it. I know what I'm looking for so i don't really care about prices.

The junkyards here does not know the difference betwwen performance and stock unless it's obvious like the DC short ram. All together he paid 60 bucks......

He sold the:
-DC short ram for $50
-Dynomax Exhaust for $50
-Neuspeed springs for $75
-Kept the rear disc brake assembly.

yeah, most junkyards here where i live at dont know little things that import enthusiasts look for. it's always a blast whenever i go to the junkyard. i found two B18B's UNTOUCHED. if i only have the storage for it, i would've pulled it out. it was gonna cost me $250 for each. it's a great side business that i'm willing to do. i like tearing stuff apart anyway. i paid $50 for a Garrett T25 and sold it for $150........ $100 profit is not bad for less than an hour work....... I paid $23.75 for a set of 45cc DSM injectors.

Well if I can control myself, I won't be getting another set. Gotta stop spending money on the car. Besides, I've always liked the stock/sleeper look anyhow.

wabster, usually junkyards work on the honor system. The ones around my area, just let you walk in and look for what you want. THey really like you to ask first before going in, just so they know who's going in. They always have a problem with people stealing expensive stuff. It's usually when you see something you want, get the info on the car that its in, then go to the office and ask em how much. haggle with them, until its where you want it, then go get it, and then pay for it.

I've never heard of cover charge...

I went to the junkyard today. I was almost done pulling out a KKK turbo from an Audi but I ran out of time. I'll be back for it tomorrow along with another turbo from a Peugot. I also found an OBD1 ECU......

Bad news, after getting my a$$ kicked by that Audi KKK (T3) turbo with a 98% completion, somebody beat me to it. I was so disappointed cuz the turbo was almost out. I just needed a pry bar to pry off the downpipe interference. The other T3 turbo on the Peugot is still there but there were just too much interference and not a lot of time left. I found another turbo off an old 300ZX and may pull out both of them this week.

Yeup, I get stuff from salvages alllllllll the time. There are LOTS around here, & lots that are strictly Imports. Those are the good ones.

The only thing is the mongos that work there. They act like it's all funny when I stroll in & ask for stuff... then they can't even pull the right stuff & I end up havin to go back there & hold their hands thru the process.

Bastards.

heck yeah.... It whooped my ass twice already. I was almost done with one as mentioned, but i got beat to it. The other one on the peugot, I'll asses this weekend. I think that any European stock turbos are hard to pull out cuz I never had a problem taking out DSM turbos..... Gotta have a T3 tho, the market for it on ebay seems better....

The KKK's have a very small market, but they are an awesome turbo. The run smother and can handle large amounts of boost for longer amounts of time. But the best way to get them out is with a tourch and a cherry picker. there is a chrysler turbo that takes two peeps, cherry picker and about an hour to pull. Have to rip the entire top of the engine off to get it, hack saw the exhaust pipe, then you can just lift it out.

there are about 6 of them just sitting, ready to be pulled. Maybe next pay check. Have a turbo kit i need to dump first.

I always get beat to it. I normally pull stuff out by myself without help. That is a big disadvantage..... I'll see if I can find some of those disc conversions......
