Need Help racing a Trans Am
My buddy has this 12 second trans am, Hes always bragging about how fast his car is and no civic could ever beat his car. What do I have to do to get my car running that faster than a 12.4 so I can beat him.
I have a 2001 Civic LX 5 SPeed with about a 1000 miles on it |

Man Ive got some bad news for you that you probably dont want to hear.. But, you may have a hard time finding parts thatll put you in the 12's right now since you have a 2001, Aftermarket parts arent as plentiful as they are for the older models right yet. But keep hope and give it some time, Theyll probably be out sooner or later. All those mods will cost you a pretty penny for sure. Price depends on the parts used and where you get them from. You can run Turbo and Nitrous if your cars well tuned, I would run a 150 shot with it tho. Keep it a small shot and youll be safe. Itll help spool the turbo up faster.

thats sad, seriously. whats he running, 6psi and a 25 shot? he could have spent that $400+ fmo the nitrous kit into his internals and been going faster. i know a guy around here with a blue Si said hes running some half ass pistons and Eagle rods (i believe thats what he said) and 10psi, 13.3. custom turbo kit. and damn it sounded so sweet. hahaha 13.9. aaaaaaaaaahahaha |

maybe when RSX/Si/Type-R swaps start happening, then we'll start seeing streetable 10/11/12 second 2k1 civics. if you are that anxious to run low 12's or better, sell your car, get a 92-95 civic vx hatch, b18c1, built internals, Drag Gen 3 turbo, fuel mods, upgraded ignition.....you should have absolutely no problem killing him. |

Sorry...
But its not going to happen unless you have a deep pocket.
A 2001 LX has no chance to run 12s. You would need a serious engine swap in addition to a form of forced induction. Right now, you need to focus on a more reasonable goal. 12s just aren't in your future.

hybrid hate to shoot your idea down and all but how is he gonna get the power to the ground he needs to upgrade the suspension also or he will just spin tires all day and if you wanna do that my friend its gonna cost you in the neighborhood of 10-12 g's considering car used w/ high milage for lowe rprice around 4,000,drag kits are another 3,500 gsr power plant another 3,000 for full swap thats 11,000 there and maybe your into the 13.5 range internals including labor is another 3,000 or so thats 14,000 and throw in the suspension and 1,500 your looking at the neghborhood of 15,000 if you can do most work on your own and get the stuff for a fair price. all in all it comes down to are you willing to spend all that to shut one guy up cause you need some DEEP pockets. I almost fogot to mention i've looked up these prices to many times but i think i off on the engine but im not sure also w/ that setup tuned right you will be looking at low 12's high 11's if your a good driverbut hell if you got the money keep us updated! |

Buy a different car if you want to run 12's. There isn't much out right know for your 2001. Or you could just sabatage his car.

Is it a stock Trans AM? Just curious. I know the WS-6's are very fast stock cars.

His trans am has this stuff SC Lid w/Raptor Hood Pro 5.0 Flowmaster w/cut out NX, Adj. 50-150 w/NX Bottle Opener C5 Rims Hotchkis STB, PHR, SB IRS LCA Intrax Springs I know my car has 118 HP by Honda's standards but I wanna know how much it puts to the ground like on a dyno. I'm guessing like 90 or 95 FWHP which means his car would be like 3 or 4 times faster than mine, is this right? |

You would be looking at about 95-98HP. You will lose approx. 14% through the drive train.

what i was refering ot was labor cause no offense hoss but he doesn't seem to have the knowledge so that would include labor and i know suspension helps put it down not net it but why put out somthing you cant put down?? its pointless couse you will just sit there and spin tires which is kewl if you like showing off but if you wanna win then no point in spining tires all day. but i think hosses best bet is either go get a v8 or get a hatch swap build boost and have fun! |
