What should I do?

Alright so initially I thought is was going to be B20, but now there are second thoughts...

So the summer project...

Given:
98 Civic HB

Possible swaps:
- K24 + turbo
- B20 naturally aspirated

5 lug conversion?
Yes / No

why on earth would you do a NA b20

either do a NA K20A2 or K24 with a K20A2 head, or do anything else boosted. Except a B20 because i just don't like those motors.

Turbo k24 in an ek? You must have a ton of cash sitting around doing absolutely nothing!
If you've got it, why not, I suppose? But serisouly...lots of money.

For simplicity, you cant go wrong with a b20 swap, but the sleeves dont really hold up to too much power, being as thin as they are. This is really something I suggest against going b20 turbo, unless theyre sleeved (which wasnt a choice you gave anyways )

The things you put up, are vastly different.
I think you need to do some rethinking on your project. Decide on goals you want - power, price, reliability, etc

And no one needs 5lug
If you want to use itr+ calipers, just use ex+ knuckles and redrill the rotors to 4x100

k24 is freeeeeeeeeeee... turbo is well... er.... yeah... that's why it's a summer project... gotta save money =]

b20 is free or really really cheap, but too many people have done it from what my sources tell me.

as for goals... all of the above but my bf and i are still undecided about pretty much everything... personally i want it as a sleeper... so...

Ok, free is always nice...but you still have to get the engine in the car.
Mounts for a k series are going to be $650, plus the time to make those mounts work (not hard, but it still has to be done) not to mention all the wiring and exhaust work.
Does a transmission come in free also?
A good turbo setup isnt cheap, and then once you have all the hardware, you still need to take time and money for tuning it, into consideration.

B20 is actually really quite popular, but as a b20vtec (since everyone seems to be on that bandwagon these days). Its true, theyre not too expensive, but there are still a few mounts that you will need (nothing over $100 for all).
A transmission needs to be found for this as well (you sure as hell dont want to use a long geared transmission, unless you want to be slow), so expect to pay $500+ for that.

If I had a free k24, Id be doing that, no question. Then Id be putting the a2 head on it, and the rsx-s tranny. Id probably go N/A (wow surprises even me)

Not too worried about the mounts, wiring etc. for the K, my bf (his name is JJ by the way so I can stop referring to him as "my bf") has that under control if that's what we decide on. As for the transmission... he can probably also dig that up somewhere (his dad owns a garage and he's the right hand man and I'm a co-op student) so that won't be too hard (or expensive) to find. And the turbo... yes... erm... well from what he tells me a supercharger was ordered for the K24, but he doesn't want it... so he's planning to sell it and buy a turbo...

So about the b20... he had the built b20vtec with the itr lsd (omg it's so long ago...) I say had because let's say shit happens and so now his poor little baby was kidnapped, raped and killed... ok so maybe that wasn't funny...

Still no one answers me about the 5 lug conversion... Except pdiggitydog... JJ and I can't decide, I want 4, he wants 5. So... ???????

ha ha ha..... you guys are funny....

Revival, I think that you should focus on one project at a time. Swap alone will take a while to ge all the bugs out. A TypeS tranny is a rare find. I think that you should focus on the K-series swap first and drive that around for a while. Those things are already a monster when swapped into a hatchback. You will be running 12's on the quarter mile already..... stock form. And in case you dont know how fast a 12 second car is, that is almost a guaranteed victory to most cars on the street....

I agree with the above about the 5 lug conversion. Consider turbo later after the K swap. To get a great turbo set-up requires a lot of research, tuning, and a combination of many parts working in HARMONY.

Goodluck!

If you're referring to the JDM Integra in the other thread, that was only a thought. This one is the summer project and it's not meant for street races (yeah I know... Why go through all the trouble...). This car is being built for a show this summer/fall and track meets.

having type r wheels would be a reason to switch to 5lug
personally, i see that whole issue as a giant money pit, with really nothing to show for it, but the bling to the honda world

I'm not referring to the JDM conversion thread.... I dont even remember what I said there. I'm mainly talking about just the focus of what you are trying to do to your EJ hatch. A K-series swap is not as smooth of a swap as many people think. So I guess what I'm trying to say is get the swap running optimum first and enjoy it. Hybrid K is the way to go. The problem with this is parts availability. Hasport mounts and harness is so expensive too. Once you start itching for more, then boost it. It becomes a totally different ball game once you decide boost. A decent K turbo manifold alone is expensive. Then all other components that must accompany the set-up is another money pit.

My friend has a K seires and turbo'd it. Very fast.
The thing is though dude. I would go K swap if it's free. and slowly build it up. b20 NA? No.

I still say b20vtec n/a but my answer may be a little biased (some of you may know=P )

It's funny to see that b20vtec all motor is too common now. Maybe it's because I live in Oregon but I have yet to see more than ten fully built from the bottom up NA b20.

Good job on the lug decision. I would've went 4 lug too. It's hot and rare. I really only like 5lug conv. on EJ's

Honestly, I was 2 seconds from converting to 5 lug. But the money went to Volks instead. I dont regret the decision at all.

5Zigen Inperio

Took me a while to find the pic online but I think this is it. I've seen the Inperio F-15, M-05, S-08; and I have no idea what's up with this one. Is it a knockoff??

Order everything from HASport and it's pretty much all plug and play I think.

If your car in non-VTEC right now, all you have to do is run 2 wires and a ground. The 3 wires will be ran through the firewall:
1. VTEC solenoid signal
2. VTEC oil pressure switch
3. VTEC oil pressure switch ground

That is if you use a VTEC head... non-GSR head.

If you use a GSR head, then you will have to run an IAB (secondary butterfly) wire the the ECU.

This also depends on what ECU you are using. OBD1 is the way to go. Some ECU's requires a knock sensor, but some motors doesnt have a knock sensor.

Whenever you've decided on what to get, post what combination you want to rig and I will help you with the wiring. This is all easy stuff.......

Errr...

Ahhh!!!

...

Ok, it's been a while but so this is what has happened since the last entry...

1. JJ went crazy and spent $300 on an amp.
>> His parents took his amp and used it for their boat.

2. Despite the above opinions the 5-lug conversion happened.
>> Click here for a pic.
>> I painted the calipers by hand (yes they're NSX calipers--just the front though, until we can find the rears)

3. SiR gauge cluster went in.
>> Heh heh... broke the temperature meter needle... Oops?

Well... I know more was done but I can't remember just what at the moment...
