Brain Storm time.. What would you like to see?
We need to come up with something to attract new members, and keep the current members coming back.
Lets make a wish list.. What would you like to see change? Are they any problems that you see that needs attention? Are there any features that we could implement that would be worth having? I realize this stuff is going to take man power to resolve and probably some time with Kalvin and Stephen if at all possible, but we could do something..

Get rid of useless forums. We need to start from the bottom, I think simplicity is the key for now to concentrate everybody in one spot, then we'll expand from there based solely on traffic. I think it should just be like this:
*Shifting Gears (OT)= Place for every OT stuff out there. This can be any general discussions including video/photo related threads, computer shitz, introduction, etc. *Automotive= Since we originated as an automotive site, all automotive subjects should be here and merely should be the automotive "technical" side of the forum. No sub forums such as Force Induction, All-Motor, Suspension, Civic, Integra, How To's, etc.... leave it in one forum for now. We'll create sub forums as we grow..... *Clasifieds= For selling crap. Some people go online just to sell stuff. *Porn=........ just kidding... hehehe. That's it. I mean think about it..... Shifting Gears gets the most traffic in this site. We are here mostly to talk about other things than cars. I also think that we should host pics like prostreetonline and wetoddracing does. Leave a some sort of water mark on every pics to advertise the site. |

I'm down with simplification. I mean when was the last time anyone posted in Kill Stories ot the girl's forum? It's nice to have those things around, but if no one's posting then they could all easily be integrated into one forum. The same goes for model-specific forums. Boil it down to suspension, forced induction, motor, trouble, etc. While some people might have more knowledge on one platform vs. another, a broad forum would be easier to manage and it would probably force the rest of us to learn more.

I agree.. There was a point when we were pretty hopping that those things actually got used.. but They just sit dormant these days. It looks stupid looking at forums and there are no posts that are newer then 30 days old.

i can't really do shit about the banner. yes, we do need a facelift. i think the problem lies with the fact that we barely get hit by search engine, and the URL does not include any honda in the name

^^ That's what I seem to remember. But then again, if that's true, why do other, bigger sites still have "Honda" in their URL?
We used to actually have an intro page and a photo gallery with user's pics that could be rated and whatnot rather than just a photo forum. I think it'd be cool to get some of that back.

Yes, it's true. I remember that conversation with Brian like it was yesterday. Honda sent him a legal cease and desist message telling him that he can't use the domain name with the word Honda in it. I'm not sure why though, it's all political BS. I'm curious as to how the others can get away with it.

No shit. Why go after this site and not Honda-tech? I say we go back to using the name Honda in the URL to attract more users and deal with any Honda legal douch bags when and if they come.

I second that idea. I remember that letter Honda sent so long ago, and I remember thinking it was just a scare tactic. Though these days its so easy for ANYone to get something taken down, due to abuse of the DMCA...
What about the original logo? I couldn't find it and I searched for like a half hour seeing if anyone ever posted it as an attachment...no dice. I had it in my sig for the longest time, but that hosting service went under long ago...this is all I could find (attached, and yes, it was the image stealing banner) And I also found this, the letter saying we couldn't use the Honda name: http://www.hstuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13174 |

Maybe one of the admins should contact bigger sites that still have Honda in their URL and ask how/if they dealt with it. I find it hard to believe that Honda would send Chief a letter like that and ignore sites many times bigger than this with the same "violation". Or hell...maybe just make a home page that has a big disclaimer on it.
I don't think this problem would fall under the DMCA...especially the way the original letter was worded. Here's a template letter that would be needed to cover DMCA violations (something I've come across from time to time since I pirate TONS of movies ) Quote:
Does the DMCA even cover trademarks? The Honda name isn't copyrighted, it's trademarked (as far as I know). Hell...even if Honda pulled stupid bullshit again, I'd be willing to help fight the fuckers.

I think the domain name change is a great idea, but Kalvin would have to be willing to go for it.. Since he's the man with the power.

We did that, remember? People bitched and moaned.
Second idea for a new domain name: www.whatwouldjesusdoinahonda.com I like it.

I honestly think we should go back to the old domain name, put up an entry page like we used to have, and stick a disclaimer at the very top of it that says we are in no way affiliated with Honda. I really don't see how they could bitch about that. And if they did, we could storm their headquarters.

OK, I haven't been on much in a while. Can a mod PM me with what happened to Chief or whoever used to run the site. It seems like alot is changing, hopefully for the better. I would really like this site to take off.

It'd be cool if someone dedicated some of their time to gathering all the info for new vehicles as they come out and made threads about each one. I always like to hear about new cars anyways.
A new name might help, hstuners almost sounds like a forum for highschool kids. |
