new found respect for the ladies....

Ok, so there I am in my 96 Civic EX, driving through my wonderful sexist world where only guys with faster cars can beat me. I mean, the day before, my near stock Civic beat a girl in a V-6 Eclipse. Pure driving skill of course right??? Ok, so I am at a almost deserted intersection at about 1130 at night when I hear this loud rumble, and a 98 Civic EX pulls up. Hmm, must have headers, intake blah blah blah. I roll down the window to see whats up and to my suprise, its a chica on the other side of the tint. All my male pride comes to the surface and I challenge her after finding out, like me, she only overhauled the exhaust. As I am thinking of how to console her at the end of the run, the light turns green and off we go. I pull about a length in front and stay there until dropping to third at about 50-55. Then she pulls even and overtakes me, beating me by about a length and a half in something over a 1/4 mile. So, after all that, I have to say, ladies, do your thing. n I was truly impressed and have that new found respect for girl drivers all of you prob find pretty sweet. Take care and drive fast.

Never underestimate female racers! They are often better than most male racers I've seen because they know they have to do better to gain respect.

Yup, another advantage they have is weighing much less than many of the guys. I respect girls that are into cars though. Too bad I don't really know any

That's cool that you respect us, but I don't understand the whole surprised thing. I mean, just because we're girls, doesn't mean you should be surprised by us punking you out.

I'm not surprised if I'm beat by a girl, just surprised that a girl is into such a "manly" hobby as cars and racing.

Since we are all up in your "manly" hobby, you gotta realize its not only for guys anymore its a hobby- it doesnt matter what sex you are.. just that you like doing it and you are good at it

He's surprised because not to many girls are into cars so he figures that the ones that are, probably just drive their bf's car or something. I used to think like that before I came to this board!

The whole "manly" hobby thing was put in quotes because it is supposedly a manly type hobby, or it used to be, but it is obviously not and probably hasn't been for some time.
You know the traditional scene of a guy wrenching on his car and the chick is just shaking her head telling him to stop messing with his car!
Oh well, in any event, it's a hobby for anyone and everyone, so long as they are responsible and intelligent.

I still think the "hooking up cars" is a manly hobby. ALTHOUGH there are some females that do it, NOT nearly as many as guys. This started WAY WAY back when with the old American muscle cars. The girls that do hook up their rides, ROCK ON!!! But how many 50 year old woman are 100% restoring their 69 Camaro or 63 Vette Split Window, or 427 Cobra? Not many if any!! I can name atleast 100 guys in their 50's restoring their favorite cars. Just check out speedvision.
