vedio connections qs

With my family's new television on order, I was wondeirng about Video connections.

Video Players -

We have been using video components (the red, white, yellow cable) for the current DVD player and VCR (which no longer works). Our DVD player supports S-video out and no HDMI out.

Are video component connections better than S-Video?

Cable box and DVR -

I am assuming if my local Comcast supports HD cable boxes with HDMI then I should go that route?

I am clueless as to how the DVR hooks up. Is it in series from the cable box into the television? If it does, then does the DVR hook into the television via components, s-video or HDMI?

I ask because I want to use which ever one is better (obviously HDMI if supported).
