That would be in my grouping of the Brat Pack movies...Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, 16 Candles, Weird Science, etc...

I don't know if it's necessarily a "chick flick" but I love "The Breakfast Club"

A good one we just saw was "Mean Girls" - that was hilarious!

It's basically about a diverse group of high school students all brought together one Saturday morning for detention. The group consists of a jock, a daddy's girl, an outcast, a rebel and a geek. Throughout the movie they come to find that although they're all individually so different and come from different backrounds that they have more in common then they thought. It proves to be both a growing and learning experience for all.

It's a good movie....definitely an 80's classic!

Erin great explaination of the movie....sounds like the blurb that you'd find on the back of the dvd. If it's not, maybe you've found your calling!!!!

Yah I love the brat pack movies....I think 16 Candles is my favorite though.

If you found that movie boring then it's a strong indication you have no idea what it means to be human. Of all the John Hughes movies it's probably the most significant only because it's an intimate human interest piece on what it is to be different in high school...argueably the most troubling and vulnerable years of your life. Each one of the characters, although significanlty different, find solice in their alienation both from each other and from their peers. It's not a tour de force, so to speak, but it's a quiet and accurate portrail of what those years of your life re truely like no matter who you are. In the venue of true to life movies, Breakfast Club is easily in my top 5.

Haha, thanks D, but I think Steve did a much better job.

And yes Sixteen Candles I think is one of my favorite John Hughes movies. I can totally really relate to Molly Ringwald's charactor. Although I'm still waiting for my Jake Ryan.

Ummmm...don't think Affleck was in that one. Brad Pitt maybe as the pikey boxer? And Affleck was great in Dogma while Pitt was great in Se7en.

And yes vtchgrl...Gone In 60 Seconds...owns all other car movies. Best car chase scene ever. Long live Eleanor.

^Yes...and now Shelby is building the GT500E if you want your own Eleanor repro. And in my book 007 ain't shit without Sean Connery. The man is just so fucking smooth. Pierce Brosnan couldn't swing off Connery's nuts.

Hey, my name's Sean Connelly...and Pierce Brosnan can't swing from nuts either

I go by my middle name though. 007 jokes get WAY old.

The Beanbandit Hall of Fame of Outstanding Cinema:
1. The Crow - "Little thing used 2 mean so much 2 Shelly, I

Hate hittin the wrong friggin button....
now where was I....
"Believe me nothing is trivial."
2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - " God lord, we're in bat
country!"
3. Fight Club - " A question of etiquette, do I give U the ass or the
crotch as I pass"
In addition 2 these any of the Guy Ritchie Films (If you all liked "Snatch "then Checkout "The Mean Machine" if you can find it - Guy Ritchie remake of the old Burt Reynolds classic "The Longest Yard") Any of the Kevin Smith Movies ("I'm like for christ's sake Walt knock it off... You know you,re going 2 get this Cat stuck up your ass just like the rest. And he said "but Brody how else am I gonna get the gerbil out." My cousin is a strange guy.") most flicks with Johnny Depp.... and of course no list would be complete without a little "Dazed And Confused" (" No... you see that's what I like about those high school girls... I keep gettin' older, but they all stay the same age... yes they do.")

And in closing I feel there needs 2 be a Movie recognized for its contribution 2 the world of automotive chases and NO I'm not talkin' about "Gone in 60 seconds" I'm talkin' about the originator of what is now the modern day car chase....

BULLITT - Steve McQueen being chased in his '68 390 Mustang GT
thru the streets of San Fran by the ominous '68 Dodge
Charger R/T... This set the benchmark for all chase
scenes 2 follow....

This is by no means a complete list of Hall of Fame worthy films but " Please if I missed anyone, you've got 2 understand, it's been along day and I'm a little tired..." A big Beanbandito salute 2 the first person who tells me which movie the last quote came from and the name of the actor who uttered it...

^ Yes...Bullitt owns us all. But Steve McQueen wasn't BEING chased, he was GIVING chase. Still, everytime I watch that movie (I got the box set...jam) I get a big smile on my face when the dude in the Charger guns it and it sounds like a bomb going off. Mmmmmm....muscle cars....

"I hope he gets caught and a blood bath insues, parents need to teach their kids to fear and respect that escalatar....That Kid..That kid is on the escalatar again"

"007 aint shit without sean connery" is damn right (i think pierce brosman(sp?)) is the worst of the James Bonds

I've heard great things about the Chronicles Of Riddick and I've heard bad things. I loved Pitch Black...although Diesel's character was about the only thing that kept it afloat (can you imagine that...Vin Diesel carrying a movie?). Right now I'm pretty stuck on Asian cinema though. I used to hate Asian films until I realized the enourmousness of their badassity and their willingness to put out movies that the U.S. wouldn't touch with a 10ft cattle prod. Go watch "Hero", "Battle Royale", or "Battle Royale 2" and we'll talk.
