UPDATE:
Although the progess may seem slow to some, it really has been a productive few days for me. I was held back a little bit while researching the thread pitch of the coolant banjo fitting for the GT35R turbo. I actually found it accidentally via an RX7 forum. Since I no longer use a stock IACV, I used the existing coolant connections for it and routed it to the coolant side of the turbo passage. It turned out great but it really is too hard to take pics of it. Pic 1 is the refabricated intercooler pipe inlet side. This is now the fourth one I did. I'm somewhat happy with it. I chose to use a 2.5 inch inlet side to increase the velocity coming into the intercooler. Pic 2 is the mounted position of the intercooler and the 3 inch intercooler outlet piping that I fabbed. Pic 3 is just another pic of the 3 inch charged pipe with the tial BOV which also now has a stiffer spring. Pic 4 is the mounted position of the Ford IAVC. Pic 5 is the C.O.P. conversion. All the wiring for the C2Di, IACV, and TPS is done. The bumper is back on. All fluids are replenished. It is time to fire the car up. I just need to get my tuner in the garage to adjust the EMS to compensated for the C.O.P. |

It has been super slow on progress. All I have done to my Teg is install an AEM 5 BAR MAP sensor. I think that I also figured out why my car wont idle normal. The Boomslang conversion harness I have didnt have the pinout installed for the IACV solenoid. I'm talking about they didnt even have the pins in the connectors. So, I ran an external wire and repin the proper connector to control the Ford IACV. However, I still havent had a chance to test it out since my tuner has to reconfigure my MAP settings to compensate for a 5 BAR.
I have been busy doing other people's car. I'm also trying to make money on the side. This week, starting Friday, I will be installing an S2000 muffler on a 2001 civic, then fabricate/weld intercooler piping for an Eclipse, then possibly fab a 2.5 inch DP on a CRX. More to come........... |

Yet again another issue. My tuner got the car started today and improved the idling issue. Made 2 runs on the street and my AEM C2Di overheated and literally almost caught on fire. There was so much smoke inside the car. We will be contacting AEM to get another one. Hopefully they give us the new one they call "twin-fire". Between my tuner and looking around the web, C2Di actually had a bad QA reputation. Which is why they have discontinued production and redesigned it.

QA usually means "quality assurance". Bad QA means that the company hasn't tested the product well enough to make it durable and safe.
I had a similar experience with an MSD 6A box a few years ago. I used to live in a cul de sac and was driving up to my house after work. The engine suddenly died and I had tons of smoke pouring from the cowl of my hood. I ran home (just up the street) to grab a fire extinguisher and didn't find one. Luckily for me, the smoke was from the box which had completely fried my chassis harness (all of those wires behind the dash). Yes, it was a nightmare replacing them. Yes, I hate MSD. And yes, I still use MSD...but now I only use their digital stuff. The analog stuff will give up the ghost in about a year or so.

yes, but unfortunately, my job is to inspect the ship's engineering department. I have to train them ppl on how to effectively run their equipment and admin..... The only good thing is, if I am not assigned to a ship for the week, I go home around 9AM.

This is a bit OT, but how many years have you got until you retire from the Navy, Arnel? My uncle was in the AF and he just retired in his early 40's and shit. He's still working for the AF as a civilian, but he's no longer an officer. Must be nice to retire in your 40's.

My solution to this overheating C2Di..... Although, I now have the newly improved Twin-Fire instead... I'm not taking chances. I fabricated a cage for it with a fan to a switched 12v.

These AEM ignition modules had TRIPLE fu**ed me already....
C2di unit (box #1), about 5 miles...... caught on fire. I called AEM for a replacement. In the meantime, CompressionFed offered me his C2di unit (box #2) from his race car, but shutdowns my motor every time it gets warm, which is around 30-40 miles of driving. Will function again after it cools down. I even hooked up a 12v fan to it. No luck. So, when I got my replacement unit from AEM, I was glad to see that they sent me a Twin-Fire.... this is box #3 now. About 200 miles later, this Twin-Fire is now frying the inline power fuse. I slapped a new fuse about 3 times but keeps on blowing it. I cant deal with these units anymore. Three brand new ignition amp with the same results. When the second box failed, I almost got hit by an 18 wheeler when my car died out on an exit ramp.. a blind spot from hell... a busy industrial area.... Truck got so close to me that he had to go on reverse just to come around me. I got out of the car to redirect traffic when another 18 wheeler swerved to avoid me and almost hit the car next to him. I've contacted AEM and I was told that this is the first problem they had with the Twin-Fire box. They are willing to replace my current one for free. But I dont want to use it anymore. I'll get the new one and sell it. I think these units are more of a race car application anyway. So I bought this set-up: http://www.msdignition.com/dist_84_8488.htm. Good stuff from what I've heard. Also has a built in "hall-effect" sensor. Coil on Plug conversion looks cool and in theory should work better than the OEM Honda system. But it is not worth the headache. The other option was to get another 4 channel output Ignition amp from M&W..... but that is $899..... I can buy another EMS for that price...... I'll post a review soon..... Meh...Hall Effect stuff isn't anything too special. I've always like the idea of a DIS setup, but you're right...it's not worth the headache. If your car didn't come with it, there's a good chance products made for your model won't work well or at all. The DFI kit I have is pretty much setup for MSD stuff (any capacitive discharge stuff will work, but they recommend MSD). MSD's digital stuff is the only stuff they make worth a shit (as far as ignition boxes go...never had a problem with my distributor). All of the analog boxes will fry if they're under a hood. You can mount them in the cabin and hope it doesn't crap out, but who wants to do all that work?
Oh...and $900 for a fucking ignition box? Does the package contain two hot lesbians who'll go at it whenever you want? If not, it's not worth it.

Well, while waiting for the MSD set-up, I went ahead and picked up these Recaro SRD's..... authentic and emaculate! It has been customized, by Recaro, to allow a 5 point belt, as the slot on the seat shows. Sold my Sparco seats.
So, my summer sub-project has commenced. This is to swap the interior into black and toss/sell all these Tan interior pieces. New shift boots ordered, ITR steering wheel ordered. I already have the black dash and rear panels from a 00 GSR. The carpet came off an 01 USDM ITR. I will paint everything else black. |

These seats are beautiful and I've always wanted them. I cant wait to finish the interior up. I've decided not to worry about the roll cage. My car car is a street car anyway. I'll still take it to the track. There are still a couple of tracks somewhat nearby that will allow me to make runs without the cage.

I was finally able to build some guts to do this. First time taking off an integra dash. It wasnt too bad, just tons of connectors to unplug. It took me at least 3 hours to remove it....... yeah, I was slow. The connectors by the fuse box kicked my ass. Tomorrow, I will install the new dash and carpet.

Believe it or not, there are not that many on the Teg. There is like 6-8 screws on the dash itself. The hardest part was the connectors for the dash harness going to the fuse box. That kicked my ass.
The conversion is almost done. just waiting for the steering wheel and shift boot. I'll post pics later..... |

Today started out slow but turned out to be great.
Around noon, Scott, the AEM Twin-Fire design engineer called me today. I was asked to test out some proto-type changes on the AEM Twin-Fire at the company's expense.... of course he had to verify what type of set-up I had.... I said that I dont mind, as long as I have a point of contact in case anything happens. He will be giving me his contact info so I can directly talk to him. I guess I'll take another shot at this Twin-Fire. I will still keep my MSD dist set-up tho.... For the rest of the day, after hours of thinking, I've decided to take apart my old integra seats, more specifically the bracket/sliding system. I wasnt suprised to see that the rails are only in 2 piece... the left and right side. After owning an aftermarket slider/rail/bracket system, I really wished to have the same functionality and ease of the stock OEM ones. So, I went ahead chop, grind, cut, weld, and grind some more on the stock rails. Then I fabricated a mounting bracket for the Recaro seat. I was so stoked of how it came out! Factory slide feel and the seat sits like stock.... which I really wanted. The Sparco seats sat terribly low and the my kitchen drawers worked better than the sliders it came with. The Sparco brackets also didnt fit right. One bolt was always off...... To get a 2 pairs of Recaro sliders and bracket, it would cost me around $250. I didnt spend a dime on this fabrication. The paint on the rails are actually black. The flash makes it look like tan-ish. I also welded beads on the corners of every 90 degree bends.
