ever see the Clarion 32" subwoofer?

About power supply:

24000 watts RMS, right? 8 voice coils. For you math majors, that's 3000 watts max per coil. I'll bet you could run it with 4, possibly 2 Zapco 900s.

I'm usually pretty good in math, but I didnt totally get your calculations..

If we have 24000 w rms.. how could that amount in 8 x 3000 w peak?

Unless you meant 8 x 3000 rms.

Peak power handling and rms max are different. 24000 watts rms max. Probably puts peak power handling at around 40-50K. Anyways, 24000 watts rms max= 3000 watts/ coil rms max. You could probably get away with running 1000 watts to each coil (wouldn't recommend it, but you could). Zapco 900Ds put out 2000 watts @ 2 ohms. 1 ohm stable means 4000 watts.

On paper, you could 8 4 ohm voice coils. Run 4 voice coils to each of 2 900Ds (which are putting out 4000 watts a piece) in parallel for 1 ohm. Boom- 1000 watts to each coil.

Once again, that's on paper. In reality, you'd be tapping out the gains on each amp, underpowering the sub, and be running at 1 ohm. 1 ohm is fine when running subs (if the amp is 1 ohm stable), but I wouldn't recommend it with your gains completely tapped. This means distortion in the sub, and a lot of strain on the amp. Bad news.

LOL

ok I see where the confusion was...

In general when refering to RMS/continuous/program/musical, you usually avoid using the word max.

Cause max is often used for designating peak.

It's cool all is clear..

Screw the amps to power that thing. Try and find a battery and alternator that will provide the needed power to the amps. Youd need a van or something with the amount of batteries you will need to push the amps to push one sub.
