shift knob install problem

my car: 02 honda civic coupe ex - manual tranny

i bought this shift knob and the glow works great. but when i screw it on, there is thread left where it doesnt screw down as far as factory. there are two verticle clips that hold the shift boot up built into the factory knob. this one doesnt have those clips. does anyone know how to get the boot to stay up without lookin like a P.O.S. seems like it would be a common problem among honda civicsof my year
