the short rams have the filter in the engine compartment
it has a short tubing peice from the filter to the intake manifold.

cold air intake has a longer tube that goes down behind your bumper to catch.... cold air. since cold air is better than hot air. but cold air intake have alot more negative attributes about them like they get dirtier faster and you run the chance of sucking up water wich is a big no no, they do sale bypass valves that will help eliminate this problem but lets face it if you got through a deep puddle it might not help all that much.IMO short ram is the way to go, especially if its your daily driver. Some brands are better than others, i prefer AEM but my friend has injen and he likes it, its all a matter of preference and price.
