Where to start

I have been considering adding some engine modifications to my 93 delsol to give a little boost in speed. Where's the best place to start for someone who only has a few hundred dollars to spend? I don't want to comprimise quality at this point by purchasing sub-standar mods... but I just don't have a lot of money at the present time to start with.
