Red Hat 7.1

Okay, so recently I installed Red Hat 7.1 on my system making it a dual boot of Red hat and windoze XP. The install sucked cause I pulled a "my bad" and chose desktop intall rather than custom. So I had to manually tell lilo to recognize the win xp partition. Once I did that, I ran into graphics card problems with xserver86. Not a big deal since this is to be expected from ATI Anyways I updated my Xserver and installed some actual working drivers for my graphics card. Now my question is, I am looking for a GUI interface and KDE seems to work fine for everyone I have talked to. What version do I need or does it even matter for Xserver version 2.2? Or would I just be better off and update to Red Hat 9.1?
