It was my impression that the caps for the oil cans are usually magnetic anyway. So, when the car is stopped the shavings (if any) will settle to the bottom and get stuck to the cap. Anywho, seems like a good idea. I'd pay $5 for it if they had it at my local autoparts store.

ummm, about the only drain plugs that are magnetic go in transmissions or differentials as they are the only ones that endure enough mechnical wear to need something to collect the bits and pieces. bearing material(which is what you normally find in oil) is non magnetic. Pistons are made of alumnium so they also are non-magnetic. now if you are getting enough debris in a filter to use the "filter-mag" then you should be looking for a severe mechanical failure.
there was a lot of sarcasm in this post but the truth is, these things don't work. IMHO jeremy |

You may just want to have a look at this site.

C8 & Ferrite magnets do not operate at high temperature. This product extracts metals even at temperatures of 300C. Its not a gimmick. If your equipment filter was to try to extract below 20 micron you'd have oil starved equipment & the consiquent results would be in pieces on the ground.
