ZC Swap

Ok I am thinking about putting a JDM ZC motor into my 1991 Honda Civic STD Eventually i would use the HF manifold for turbocharging but i would start with basic bolt ons. Anyway it's gonna cost me alil under one grand with the ecu tranny motor axles etc. How aboutit?

I think you should check out the b16a swap. It'll be a little more work and probably about 2000 w/ the proper mounts, linkage and axles. Then you'll have the vtec not to mention a lil more hp/tq. I dunno it just seems like a lot of money for about maybe 10 extra hp and dohc.. either way good luck with it

No, it will be a lot mor than 10 extra hp. It will be 60 extra hp because I have the standard model that has only 70 hp. And i can get the engine and transmission for 600 dollars as opposed to 1,900.

70 hp I didn't realize they made a crx that low in hp. I have an si so I guess for me a zc wouldn't be that special? damn but still non vtec kinda sucks not to mention its still a d series motor :\

si motor - 108 bhp @ 6000
zc motor - 137 bhp @ 6800

I guess it was more than 10hp but you get what I mean

yeah, a ZC could be considered a poor mans swap, but my reason for doing it is:
slightly more power and torque,
I can build it while I still have my other engine in my car,
its an easy first swap.

If I was looking to make serious power and had a lot of experience swappin and had time and money, then I would go with a b18 of some sort, but I don't.

Oh and I don't have a CRX I have a Civic Hatchback. And yeah it is still a D series Motor. Which Means yeah I still get D series prices on everything. Because in case you haven't noticed. It's a lot cheaper to buy stuff for D series because nobody wants it. And It's a motor that on paper looks like it will produce alot more torque than the tire schreeching 82 lb/ft the D15 currently residing in my car "thuderously" produces. And my car weighs less than yours ef9civic. Because A: There is absolutely, positively, no sound deadening material in my car -50lbs no sunroof or sunroof support -150lbs and no raear wiper or rear speakers (i'm not sure, do you have rear speakers?) -25lbs
So there i need less power. And my plan is to build it over the winter while i'm in school so that when summer comes around I can pop it in and beat all the rich ass punks that go to my school. Fun Factor for Michael

Oh yeah and I went to your cardomain page and you have a picture of a CRX on their labeled your next project car and it says it will have a ZC in it. So why do you seem to not like ZC's so much yet are planning to use one yourself.

I have a civic to and it's a dx so no sun roof etc like you said. Hell I don't even have 1 speaker in it let alone backs that's not by choice either i'll have a decent stereo someday haha anyway If you have all this time why don't you not waste the money your going to put into that motor and just spend a little more on the swap its self and get a b16? lol yanno or hell an h22 is only around 1500 to 2200 but hey your reason for wanting it is cool.. good luck with it man

first off I don't want you to get the impression that I don't like zc's cause for the money etc if you don't have much they're dope or if you want something challanging that to but trust me im trying to talk my dad out of it every day (its his project not mine i'm just going to drive the car)

12 or 11? I hope you plan on doing A LOT more than just a zc swap.. turbo some internals and nitrous might hit 12s daily driven

you can't be serious? hahah If that were true then D series motors would be running like 20s and a 99 civic SI wouldn't be worth buying. I've ran mid to low 15s (15.5, 15.3) with a stock 99 civic ex on 50 shot of dry nitrous.

I have a 91 civic hb b16a swap WITH TONS OF MODS... 15s? hardly, sorry. I'm getting a venom fuel rail and venom high flow injectors this week so there's more fuel for the fire peace

anyway what do you roll?

and also I just caculated what my estimated 1/4 time should be guessing my hp at 230 (which I think is low) and adding all the extra proper weight of the motor swap.

weight - 2265
hp - 230

13.16 <-- flywheel hp quarter (me)
12.48 <-- wheel hp quarter

so I think I should be somewhere around there but we'll just have to see I might venture to the track this weekend and get some slips to see what im putting out.. peace

which b16 civic? 99-00 si ??? or the civic 91 jdm ef9? You might be talking about a b16 civic 99 si or something but the stock ef9 civic will run a 14.85. high 14s STOCK.

I figure atleast 230 from all the mods I have. Check my sig out and also I just ordered a new RVM race pulley and a alternator. I'm getting venom injectors, fuel pump and fuel rail prob next week. I'm guessing with all my mods around 230ish.. (I'll run it on the dyno when it's finished but I'm just saying " guessing " 230 right now)

I'm just building my motor don't try to be cool and hate on me. I don't see why I won't get 230hp. If you think im going to run a 15 your a ****in retard dood a stock ef9 runs a 14.7 do some research before you start talking cause you make yourself look stupid. Well considering that I have all the ignition done I am going to do the fuel. Then I'll probably do A LOT of internal work and eventually turbo, or nitrous or whatever that's why it's a PROJECT car
I'll post my 1/4 times etc when I get some.

Next step: D16Y8 tranny/ACT clutch/ACT prolite FW
Quaife LSD

um nice?

wow a bunch of shit that doesnt add any power(besides the CAI), yet this moron thinks he's gonna dyno at 230hp. whos the retard????

ok dood do you realize that people with d series motors in the same car are running 15s?

I have the ground system, CAI, exhaust, header, pretty much the basic bolt ons, no a/c and no ps. so let's say i'm pushing 200hp?

curb weight is : 2127lbs I just added an extra 100 to the car cause the motor swap.. so we'll say 2227lbs to make it a bit more accurate. (the link to check it)
http://www.performancesupply.com/civic88-91.htm

this is the time I should run roughly according to the site.
http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/et.htm
(put in 200hp to the flywheel)
1/4 time: 13.710081819401478

but yea ok, wow your cool we'll just have to see what the dyno says and what I run in the 1/4 instead of aruging back and forth on forums. Lord knows I love having more posts for my status but I stopped argueing when I was 10 besides if you read the post right I strongly stressed a "MAYBE and GUESSING" at the 230hp. peace

guess what that 200hp guess is still way too much. your gonna dyno at like 140-150hp AT MOST.

oh yeah you forgot to add in weight for fuel and how much you weigh. thats another 200lbs or so.

I'm not saying 14's with that engine in your car is impossible but its not gonna be easy.

ok 2327lbs (I added your 200lbs of um gas? haha)

say I had no mods at all and stock 160hp.

by the calculated 1/4 website I'll still run a 14.9
I imagin an exhaust, header, hyper ground system and the new crank pulley will add hmm 20hp? (low but your a dick if I go realistic) so we'll say 20hp extra will be 180hp.. ok so if I ran 180hp to the flywheel weighing 2327lbs I'll be hitting a 14.4 1/4 time. I didn't guess this either I took everything I said straight from your weight added and the calculated 1/4 time site. you can do the exact same and see for yourself. now... ***** about the facts

there's the site just so you know. http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/et.htm

your only going to get like 10hp from those little mods.

using some 1/4mile guesstimator is not fact, getting off your ass and going to the track is fact.

cause a dyno reads WHEEL hp and the factory ratings are CRANK hp.

you act like you know what your talking about but you DONT.

and I will be the first to admit I don't know much of shit. I've done one swap and put all these parts on myself and my car isn't running right so go figure. I'm fine tuneing it right now trying to find the problem. we'll see what the 1/4 time is though but I'm sure i'll hit AT LEAST 14s. It really doesn't matter anyway because it's my project..
my future plans for this is to do the whole fuel system, some kind of fuel manage system or if I can find an ems that will work i'd get that. I'm doing a stroker kit , venom digital nitrous, ported and polished head Toda Spec B Cams, Toda Cam Gears, Toda Valve Springs and Skunk2 Retainers (its a package) and whatever else I think I need along the way so I'll be way past 14s gimmie until next summer or sooner and I'll have everything then

tell me what you think about the future mods

ok lets move on... but just so you know those "calculators" are far from accurate.
