Kids around here just shouldn't race cars
So me and a friend spent the better part of the day tuning the car since the weather's getting nice again and afterwards I figured I'd buy him some McDonalds for helping me (the least I could do, right?). Well...low and behold there was a car show at the local McD's. A ton of nice cars...an old Stingray, a Chevelle LS6, even a Lotus Esprit (how the hell do you get a Lotus in Kansas?). But there was a kid there...prolly 17 or so with a late 90's Civic (sorry...I don't know my Civics) who came over and we shot the shit for a while...pretty cool kid. Then he asks if I want to race. I just asked "ummm...are you sure?". He proceeds to tell me he's got a built shortblock, T-66 turbo, AIC, and the whole nine yards (this is in addition to his wicked chicken wire grill inserts). But I figure ya never know...a ton of kids around here have parents who'll buy them anything. So he asks what I'm running and my reply was "oh...just a 331" *insert snicker here*. I figured we'd just do a run what you brung kinda thing so nobody opened their hood. Well...to make a long story short this kid did NOT have a T-66...probably not even a built motor. I took off around 3/4 throttle and left him like he was in reverse. I even gave him a chance to catch up after about 5 car lengths and he was struggling. He actually did have a turbo...but my guess is that it was more like a T-03 size. It was too high pitched to be a T-66. But I gotta say he was cool as hell. He even laughed about it when we met up afterwards. Moral: don't bullshit in a run what you brung race unless you like being ***** slapped.

Ya that's for sure Quote:
And b-boy didn't even know that that wasn't supposed to be under the hood? I used to make my buddies in faster cars run me cuz I wanted to see how dispicably slow my car was... my buddy with a talon raced me NEVER GOING OVER 3.5k he burned me (in a nissan sentra E (bottom of the line 1.6 dohc)) by like 20 car lengths... if it's got 4 cyl it better have a turbo and even then there are no guarantees... I saw a kid with a turbo on his car that didn't have the charge piping sealed AT ALL... ie he was just pissing his boost out of the pipiing before it ever reached the motor... he didn't get why his car wasn't that fast "even with the turbo". but ya unless you run sub 13's there is NO reason to ask to race a real car. It just makes you look dumb and gets everyone's hopes up... cuz that's what I've found domestic guys don't actually want to win to an import... they really want to see the one that they can't beat but it NEVER seems to happen.

Hey GT40FIED, which mcdonald's was that? My buddy and I are crusing down to front street and I-35 by the casinos tonight for some racing action. I guess a bunch of people will be down there racing on some deserted roads. I'll take lots of pic's and some vid's, let you know how it turns out.

That's pretty far north of where I cruise. It was next to a McDonalds at 103rd and US69. And nonuv...he knew I meant I had a built motor but I don't open my mouth about the DFI or the turbo unless someone asks. But like I said...he was cool and laughed his ass off when I told him about the turbo. But then he did the guy thing and kinda said "well no wonder you beat me so bad". I was trying to get the guy in the Lotus to race but the bastard got pissed when I asked him if it was real or a kit (an honest question, right?...considering we live in Kansas). All the other guys with cool cars were all either old or just there to show the cars. Maybe next time...I still wanna meet up with that Ferrari F50 that I've seen around here.

thats funny as hell to prove someone wrong..my friend has a Neon (yes...a neon) and he claimed that it was fast and he dropped a racing transmission into it not long ago..well I drove it and the only time it felt like it was picking up was after 55mph...I laughed my a$$ off at him..specially now since he wants to race my girlfriend who (against her will mind you) had to buy a '98 Neon R/T 5spd...well his car will get burned and I will laugh cause hers is a quick little booger of a domestic POS

It's SEMI true.... sure most are pretty confident it'll never happen and wouldn't feel too cool if they got burned by a civic but... A LOT of the guys I know who are mechanics and SERIOUS domestic only guys (gas station owners who grew up in the 50/60's) have ALL said the same thing and had the same giddy look when they've just gotten out of a talon or eclipse gsx etc. "WOW.... you kids are always hopping up these little 4 bangers and usually I say it's dumb but.... THAT THING IS FAST" They have the same look that they do when they get a ride in a nice "real car". That dude on the c5 forum who got burned (kinda) by the dude with the turbo b16 was totally impressed... course the dudes there did NOT give that kid the credit he deserved... they were all... you were on slicks he was on street tires... that's not fair... the not fairs and excuses' afterwards are always the best... Oh... the TURBO is why you beat me... not the fact that you have 3-4 times the displacement than me AND a better tuned engine.
