The death of net neutrality?

I'm sure at least some of you have heard of a bill before congress that would essentially privitize the internet and put a nail in the coffin of network neutrality. I, for one, can't believe this is a) not getting more media attention and b) in any way fucking legal. The internet only works when it's free and open for everyone to use as they wish. Thoughts?

For those who don't know, net neutrality basically works on the principle that you can go wheverever you want, whenever you want, and your only limiting factor is your bandwidth. Some people in congress and some of the companies who own people in congress (companies like AT&T, Telus, Verizon, Comcast, etc.) think it's a good idea to do away with this idea. The result is essentially a two-lane internet. The fast lane is for companies who have paid your ISP for quicker access and the slow lane is for companies who haven't. Now you have the ability to surf where you want without worrying about a thing...but what if your favorite site doesn't pay up or a rival site pays more? Your ISP can make access to that site painfully slow or block it altogether. For instance, say SuperHonda wanted to snuff HST out. All they have to do is bribe a few of the bigger ISPs and access to their site would remain smooth and steady while HST's access would go down the toilet. Not suprisingly, some members of congress (the ones who were bought by big telephone and cable companies) have already voted against net neutrality. It's total bullshit.

I'm not gonna worry about it until it passes, then the Supreme Court will strike it down under freedom of the press... so I won't worry about it then, either.

Very interesting. GT you should look into 'new world order' and read up on that.

Haha. Honestly I never paid much mind to those dime-a-dozen "small group of people are taking over the world" things. There's just too many. The Trilateral Commission, Bilderberg Group, The Counsel On Foreign Relations, Freemasons, Illuminati, Bohemian Grove, etc. (I wasn't kidding when I said they were a dime a dozen). The idea of the NWO seems to be almost uniquely American, though. Probably because the words "Novus Ordo Seclorum" (roughly meaning "a new order for the ages" in latin) is printed on our money right belowthat pyramid with the creepy eye. It's not that I don't ever think about the issue...it's just that there's not a fucking thing I can do about it even if it is true.

Oh I dont think for a second about the likelihood of it being true that this group is out there. I think we're seeing the out come of 50 years of practicing at getting better.

If the internet goes this way it will be bad for small businesses.
