Might be going to the darkside...Talon

I am so tempted to sell my civic and go with a talon tsi. I was reading through the paper cause I was looking for a beater to use for pizza deliveries, cause my car is starting to hate me. I came across somebody selling a 93 talon, turbo, good condition, $1200. I know what your thinking, "define good condition", cause thats what I'm thinking. As soon as I can get a hold of this guy I'm gonna go see it, and possibly make a low-ball offer if its not a bucket of crap.

The problem is if I buy this, I'll want to put money into it, and there will be no more money left for my poor civic. So I'm left with a hard choice: go with the superior car (if its in good condition) and sell the civic. buy the car and keep my civic in garage. or just walk on by and try to forget about it all.

oh yeah, the specs on a talon tsi 1st gen: 195 hp, dohc, awd or fwd depending on model.

help me decide!

I say definately buy the talon, do maintenance on the civic, and use the civic as your daily driver and mod the talon instead...

what do you want? more show or go?
you want go, get the talon
want show, don't buy it
I'm no too sure about dependability with the Eagle, but it's a good price
if you do decide to get it, then use the civic as your driving car and mod the hell outa the talon, or vice versa. but keep the civic in case the talon turns out to have a bad engine

If the talon is in good condition, this is your best bet probably.

im sorry bro but if it was me, id say forget the talon, and throw a throttle body in your civic, with left over to add to the style, and enough to buy a cheap prostitute and a 24 case of keystone light.

PS, i think talons are ugly, even the a TSi could take my civic, itll look like shit roling up to the line...

dont betray the power of the civic, if you wanna get something turboed look for an older GST eclipse, way better...

why not swap an engine? nevermind...... it's your money. if it was up to me, i'd get a decent drivable and reliable ride then mod the s**t out of that civic.

well, it turns out that this talon isn't what I was hoping. Even though they just lowered their asking price down to "$800/bo" I still don't think I want it. I went to go see it the other day, and here's the run down:

running on the donut spare on the back passenger

significant scrapage on every side/corner of the car, like the person didn't know how to manuever for crap

cracked body peices (plastic)

no boost gauge (they said it was turbo; isn't there supposed to be a boost guage in the middle of the tach?)

interior is so-so

I asked my mechanic if talons are a good buy, and he said first of all to stay away from automatics (which this one is) and that the biggest problem he's seen with them is the engine wearing out (specifically piston rings), so I think I'm going to pass on this one, unless of course they want to give it to me for like 300.

If I ever come across a first gen talon or eclipse, manual, turbo I will definatly look to buy it. The power that they put up is very cool and the potential is amazing. As for power of the civic, well there is none. I am definatly planning an engine swap (i'm going to build a ZC, and possibly turbo it) or at least a rebuild of my current engine. I don't plan to sell my car now, my plans are set for my car, one day it will be complete.

Turbo dsm's are awsome, if you have the money to put into them for upkeep. A good friend of mine has a 1st gen talon tsi (manual) and it's stock. He put in an aftermarket turbo and it's running low 13's with no 3rd gear. Now, his tranny breaks at least once every 2 months, and other things come up quite often. And it's hard to find parts and people to work on them, but besides that, they are very fast. And as far as looks go, if you aren't into the show scene and you just want to go fast, what does it matter if it is ugly? His car is stock, white, with all the factory trim on it. It's awd and he has some good tires, but stock wheels. It's not perfect, but it's in decent shape. People will race him just because they think it's crappy. Then when they see nothing but his taillights, it doesn't matter what the rest looks like. Just my opinion.
Oh, and last week a friend of mine with an Integra Type R, Jun cams, exhaust, and lots more Jun goodies (running about 13's in the quarter) raced this piece of crap old grand national. It whooped him pretty good.

People hear alot of things. They aren't hard to work on other than the space constraints. And they aren't harder than hell to fix. If you maintain your DSM, it will last. People beat the shit out of them and then ***** when they break. Go figure....

Yeah you don't want an auto. Those auto trannies will die.

And there is supposed to be a boost gauge on the left near the tach. So either they swapped in a N/T cluster or they don't know what they have.

Good luck on your search. Check out www.dsmtuners.com. there's usually some nice eclipses/talons for sale on there.

thanks man. book marked that site, cause I'm also on the look out for one now. I decided I'm definatly not going to get it (although they did drop there asking price to 550) I just dont want the probs of an auto, and its not turbo, and the body is crap.

I am more than likely going to buy my friends 94 escort. only 75k and its only had two owners one of which was an old lady. they've taken very good care of it and it drives fantastic. $1500, and since its my friends girlfriends car, she's letting me pay in installments; 1000 down and then two payments of 250 whnver I get paid.
