me from another forum (im the top geekz0r) the geekz0r (11:03:46 PM): basicly, look at it this way...the 6speed is the same is the 5speed in 2,3,4,5,and 6...only the speeds are different because of the fd the geekz0r (11:04:16 PM): so 2nd pulls like 1st in the 5speed, 3rd is like 2nd, etc. PortugeeTex (11:04:26 PM): so whats 1st like then? the geekz0r (11:04:49 PM): 1st is like hitting a cheeta in the ass with a tazer PortugeeTex (11:04:53 PM): lmfao |

I dunno. I kind of dont like this idea. I like all cars and the partition of domestics and imports makes it more interesting to me.....

Blarg...it's been going on for years. Technology sharing programs have been around for quite a while. Ford and Mazda have had one for probably a bit over 10 years (that I know of)...so a Ranger ends up with a Mazda transmission and a Mazda gets a Ford 2.3L motor. Now GM has hooked up with Honda. Who knows Daimler Chrysler will hook up with. Sad thing is that anymore there's really no such thing as domestic and import...I don't think there's a single car available on the American market (save perhaps a few exotics) that is entirely assembled using parts exclusively from it's company's country of origin. It goes both ways..."imports" and "domestics". So really, import vs. domestics crap is really just a bitchfest.

Actually, it's quite rare that a one company uses another's engines. Other parts...that's different. Again...I direct you to Ford and Mazda. Ever notice a bit of similarity between the later model Mercury Capri (not the '79-'86 Mustang-like models) and the Mazda Miata? And don't think it's only American based companies using foreign motors...it goes both ways. I don't think GM is using the Honda motor because they can't figure out how to get efficient power from a smaller displacement motor...I think it's because they're too damn lazy to try. They're pretty content to rest on their laurels.

heh, i think ford owns mazda. i've read somewhere that the next contour/mistique will be mazda 6 based. look at the ranger and mazda b series--same lines, look at the last mazda 626 and 97 stangs, same lines and everything, even where the stang has the foglights, the mazda has depressions in the bumper.

as for honda and gm i think honda went thru gm's parts bin and borrowed the plastic fenders off the avalnche and slapped them on the element. Even the 03 accord sedan has some saturn lines to it (ls that is). from what i heard the colaboration between gm and ahmc started in 97 when honda wanted to get into the truck market and needed some engines that can actually pull a truck with load and everything. and if u ask me the 4cyl american engines (gm, ford, chrysler) are kinda crappy, quality wise, but the v6's and v8's rock.

Yeah...it's really kinda sad how many companies borrow from one another. Look at the Ford Focus...it's an obvious predecessor to the Mazda 6. If you ever see a comercial for the Mazda 6 they'll cram it down your throat that it's "totally original" or "new and bold", Face it...it's a redesigned Focus. I wouldn't be the least bit suprised if the next gen Ford stuff was Mazda based. Face it folks...it's just business.
