Well...as most of you know, I'm in the Air Force and when it comes down to it, I can be sent anywhere at anytime...this shit scares the hell out of me too but hopefully we won't wind up going into a full blown war....especially with the whole Afghanistan thing still going on......luckily so far none of my friends have been killed and I would like to keep it that way.......

Is it true that if there's a draft, they won't take higher education students until after they have taken others? A friend said that, but I didn't know what to believe.

you don't have to worry just yet Chris...this is the order that they follow:
Some active duty, then they hit the reserves, then the guard(s), then more active duty......for them to actually draft people we would have to have an all out full-blown WWIII which I don't forsee happening..........

Id fight if I had to...I know how to use a gun...and I have taken 1 flight course...but I dont wanna go...Id rather work on my car and try to get laid again sometime soon (which probably wont happen either) |

18 here. I for one sure as hell don't wanna get drafted to fight in a war i don't believe in. Shit you think the Iraquis want war? They're scared shitless of us Sadam's just too much of a douche to back down though, and Bush Jr. has some need to finish what daddy couldn't.

Honestly...unless you're in the military right now, you have nothing to worry about....I have no idea where Bush is gonna go with this but at worst it will probably be another Gulf War...not that I'm trying to belittle the Gulf War but everything these days are Operations, not wars....Conflicts, not wars...blah blah blah...
On the other side of things, do any of you realize that we have been bombing Iraq just about every single day since like '91 or something like that? I was in Saudi Arabia for 95 days back in '00-'01 and it was going on while I was there and it was no big deal. I used to go to classifieds briefings and see what was going on....it was no worse than what's going on now. The only difference, what's going on now is being publicized.......bleh...

I personally feel that if they start drafting, they should give the able bodied convicts first round draft picks. Since most of them already have experience with combat and weapons.
In all seriousness though, I guess Id fight if I had to. I mean, would I really have a choice.

It is so sad how the media puts people in a panic. People talking about this being another vietnam, gonna start the draft, blah blah blah. Not they are not gonna start the draft. Like Accordinstyle said, they will take active duty, reserve, guard, and recall people out of retirement before they start the draft. Unless you WANT to serve in the military, you won't.
And higher education worked for vietnam, but won't work nowadays? What do you mean by that?? The media should really be regulated. I really can't stand all the horseshit the media reports. |

Me personally, I would never fight for this county. I'm a girl so I don't really think that I have much to worry about. I was in this ROTC program my first couple years of high school and I thought that I might want to get involved in the Air Force at some point but then I just developed my own beliefs about our government. There are too many contradictions.

Well you don't have to fight for your government... Fight for whatever you want. Look at what you have, look at what people in Somalia or another 3rd world country have, then maybe you want to give something back. And in the Air Force, unless you are aircred CCT, PJ etc you are not going to do any fighting anyways. |

Hey, take it easy-everybody. We have no reason to be afraid. Worrying will not get any of us anywhere, we have no choice but to go on with our lives. Saddam wants us to be in fear, and to disrupt the american way of life. I am also against an all out war, but if it happends it happends. |

I hear ya, but if the media was regulated, we would have no clue what is going on around us. Media in China is regulated, in an effort to create un-affective people who are brainwashed. I do agree that i wish this never happend, but i am glad that i know (have some idea of) what is going on. |

like was said earlier there most likely won't be a draft unless there is an all out war with hundreds of thousands fighting. The draft was proposed by some senator as a way to create anti war sentiment among the american public. he figured if people were worried about having to fight, they'd oppose the war. the problem is, what happens if he gets what he is lobbying for, then it really backfires. Rumsfield has said that the draft is not an optioin and the pentagon has reiterated it with press conferences and presentations about our "all volunteer" military.

First off, I know you can't ever regulate the media.. but they write things to portray something that will give them ratings. Of course people are being called up. But you have to realize that there is a standard rotation moving between here and the Gulf. We do have close to the number of troops now as we did during desert storm in the Gulf, but the media reports every little action mobility takes like we are gearing for war even though they are routine. They warp what is going on, and give people the wrong idea and cause them to panic. Just read this thread and look at the crazy crap the media has influenced.
And look what happened in the Gulf War. Iraq got a whooping. And why? Because of air power. Smart weapons destroyed infrastructure, comm, strategic missile sites, etc etc before the war even began. Why in the world would this war be any harder?? Back in 1991, 12% of our munitions were smart weapons. Now that number is over 90%! I mean, we are working on GPS guided artillery... while saddam is training 12 year olds to shoot. |

the FCC wanted all media to be government owned.. that would be dthe downfall of news as we know it. people high up could do whatever they saw fit, and we would never know, but then the enws would show nothing but propaganda and brainwash the american public.... you may disagree, but look at something as simple as "drugs support terrorism" or "SUV's support terrorism" please...... this war is because of oil claims in the first place, although it wont be said on the news, cause then bush would look like a fool.

i heard the first guys to go if the draft happens which could if N. Korea situation gets crazy, is 20 years olds with birthdays in April. then it goes down by year to 18 year olds and then if those are all used up it goes to 22 and up. then they start with may and follow the same age routine. the us military is only a million strong compared to 1.5 million in 1990 and big retired generals say the draft very well could happen!

Actually news today is the biggest propaganda out there. It is so warped it is not even funny. So why can't people high up say what should be on the news? Not that I want that, but it's better than the random idiot deciding what goes in the news. There needs to be someone saying "don't put that on because you are giving the wrong idea". That is all the media does.. as I said, look at the rediculous (sp) panic in this thread.. people talking about the draft, getting taken out of college to fight in the war.. lol That will not happen, but the media puts that crap across so everyone out there will "tune in" to see what happens and what it's all about. And this war is not about oil. I am tired of democrat presidents that take the broomstick up the ass from everyone out there because they are more worried about getting re-elected than our country's welfare. If this was about oilr why don't we just occupy South America then?? The idiot democrats want to skip through the fields picking daisies telling themselves everything will be ok if they leave them alone. That is simply idiotic. They hate us, and will always hate us. |
