Thermal Stealth INstalled....BUT!!!

wassup guys and gals
i finally have received and installed my Thermal Stealth.
when i was installing i also installed a FOcUZ High Flow CAT
the stealth sounds good, but at around 4500-6000 rpm i hear a TINGy kind of noise!!! sounds like what a EVO does on a RSX revs low then once it gets to said RPM it tings then sounds dies out.

NOw is this because i have the HIGH FLOW CAT? how much difference does a high flow CAT make when installing an exhaust on a N/A car? i know there is small/no HP difference, is it just sound differnce? and if so i should take it off, correct? OR is this something that the Stealth does? or will it go away?? i have spoken to several STealth owners before the install and was not made aware of this.

i have been told that there is kind of a Break in period for EXhausts and they get louder after a while.

does/did any0ne here have the same problem?

The exhaust sounds GREat at cruising speed and it loses its sound once u get over 6k rpm(a good thing since i normally rev out to redline but wont anymore since there is no noticeable sound) but as stated above it is tinging at 4500-6000 rpm.

Please HElp Guys.
thanks in advanced
Daniel

hmm mine does the same thing with the stock exhaust. maybe you got something loose and gets into resonance at certain rpms

Does it sound like a can full of angry bees?

If so I think it's normal... most canister exhausts make that noise at certain rpm ranges...

that's why people call them fart cans.

yeah I don't know the difference between them all...

It's just that everytime I hear the swarm... it's coming from a canister style exhaust...

also, there is no point on revving to your redline then shift. it doesnt do anything good but make noise and wear out your internals quicker. Max revving should not exceed your peak torque and HP rev point. I know that you said that you're not doing it anymore, i just want to emphasize the fact....

tinging? i don't really know how to transcribe that...maybe it'll go away after the break-in period...and congrats on the new exhaust..

thanks for info fellas,
i did put the OEM cat back on and everything is as should be

no more tingling noise, and the exhaust has quieted down a good 15db, it sounds really good,

if i can get ahold of a digital video camera i will record a clip of it so everyone can hear.

only thing i have to do now is find 2 bolts for the cat heat shield *to replace the ones that got broke, u would think they wouldnt rust after 7 years and 120k miles *

other than that she sounds B U T FULL

on another note i saw some kid riding in front of me earlier with a NASTY sounding exhuast *CAN O BEE"S fo sHO* he kept reving up at me like he was bad ass, so i passed him and let him hear what a real exhaust sounds like

Thermal, so i should shift at 5k RPM then? because i have tried that and i am alot slower than when i rev to 7500 rpm* yes i know REdlinE is at 6900 or so* i mean if im gonna race someone i need to be able to rev out longer, but for cruising i dont shift above 5k anymore.*this is where exhaust note starts to lose the hUMMMM*

thanks again guys.
Daniel

Not trying to start a fight but...

On the 96+ ex's they have the same tranny as the z6 but a lower redline... In my ex I have to go to 7200 (even though it's loosing power after 6800 or so...) because it sets me into a MUCH better rpm range in the next gear...

I wouldn't be nearly as fast if I didn't run out EVERY gear... even then it doesn't drop me into vtec range in the next gear... so ideally I'd be shifting at like 8k but I don't risk going so much as a hair over the redline...

I've hit the revlimiter like one or two times...

Eventually I plan on upgrading the head/valvetrain so as it can rev a little higher...

this may sound dumb but, what is the rev-limit on a 99 ex? i've never taken my car past the redline to find out...

not positive but probobly about 200 rpm above the redline...

it's there for a reason... honda really lets you run it to it's peak... most engines DO NOT like being run to their redline often at all... but I have to say I pretty much bring it to it 60% of the time... which is a LOT. and my car still runs decent.. problems here and there but no valve float or other serious problems... has 160k on it too...
