Internal to External wastegate control

I got thinking about this today in physiology class (lots of time to think since its all review from bio 205).

If a turbo has internal wastegate, and you wanted to convert to external, all you'd have to do is block the internal wastegate hole right? Then add the external gate on the manifold.

How would you go about doing that? Just modified downpipe, right?

Diagram anyone?

yeah actually it'd be pretty simple on my t3. just take off the wastegate actuator and then remove the wastegate flap. Then you'd need a 5 bolt plate that would cover over the wastegate hole but leave the exhaust port open. It'd probably be extremely simple. but i wouldn't see the need to do this since many turbo's (t3's anyway) come externally gated, i just perfer internal wastegates because it makes things simpler.

There are a few ways I've seen it done:
1) Do not connect tubing on the actuator diaphragm
2) Remove the diaphragm and actuator and weld the pivot point in place
3) Weld the gate shut
4) Remove the gate and use a 5-bolt turbine outlet flange

Most, if not all internal wastegate fails in the close position which is actually unsafe. If at any point the tubing on the actuator diaphragm ever get disconnected accidentally, the result can be catastrophic since it will boost to the max efficiency of the turbo. External WG will do the same given the same situation.....
