cashizslick not sure what you mean by how is the ivtec different then a regular DOHC vtec. Do you mean how is it physically different, or how if feels differently?
-Well many things are different between the vtec and ivtec, the most notable, according to what I've read, is the addition of a variable valve opening overlap mechanism to the VTEC system. Named VTC for Variable Timing Control, the current (initial) implementation is on the intake camshaft and allows the valve opening overlap between the intake and exhaust valves to be continously varied during engine operation. This allows for a further refinement to the power delivery characteristics of VTEC, permitting fine-tuning of the mid-band power delivery of the engine. The other big change is the i-VTEC engines are mounted such that the intake valves faces the front of the vehicle and the exhaust valves the rear, just like the Japanese Grand-Touring Championship racing cars. Other improvements are in the important areas of fuel economy and emissions. -As for how does it feel? Well, ,my opinion is that it sounds and accelerates better then the old VTEC system. The acceleration of course could be do to anything, but you cant beat the sound. Overall, they both run great and worth having. Although, I will never get rid of the 6th gear!!!!!!! |

If you are in SoCal and will be deploying soon, I am guessing that you are at Camp Pendleton, Miramar, or March AFB. What unit are you in?

I'm actually part of the inland empire. I live in the lancaster/palmdale area. I'm air force, so I'm stationed at Edwards AFB. Sorry about your upcoming deployment. I'm already deployed
