it all depends on the sponsorer, but usualy they own your car besides the title. they put money into it, you must go to shows and show it off. sometimes shops will give you a discount as long as you show off the car for them, but most the time a shop either wants a brand new car(350z rx8 etc.. new to the market) so they can be known as the first to make this car nice, or they want a already relly nice car so they can claim to alot of stuff they didnt do.

Really wanting to put a striaght 5 cylinder in it. Volvo makes one but i would rather put a Four cylinder (honda) in it. The British were pretty good at making the suspension but not to bright w/ the motor. Only puts out 90HP. Be nice to put a 170HP motor in it. |

You should look into a 13b rotory engine. There's a Austin Healy bugeye sprite around here with a 13b turbo in it. I watched him race at a local autocross......and he was kicking major a$$. He has faster than the vettes out there.

Fellow MG owner
Nice cars! I'm familiar with both of them. THe Cougar looks great. Have you had it dynoed with the SVT UIM and LIM?
As for the MGA, there is a site that deals with an MGA bottom end swap. I am not sure if yours is a twin-cam. If it is, the only way to keep the stock appearance and get more output is by adding the greater displacement of an MGB 3 main bottom end. with some minimal head work, the MGA head will fit on the MGB block. I am not sure if it is the same case with the MGB 5 main engine. Then you can rebuild the MGB blcok to about 1900cc. With single cams you'd be looking around 90 crank HP. With twin-cams, probably closer to 110 or 115. But I am speculating. I'll try and find that link for you when I get home. Have fun! And email me any time. I love talking about these old cars. I am looking to do a Ford Zetec conversion in my 79 MGB roadster.... also go to : http://www.mgcars.org.uk/namgar and become a member! |

Well, im almost pulling the motor right now. Had to stop for food. Ive decided in the 1800cc engine swap w/ the MSX aluminum cylinder head. Also looking into some forged pistons to bump up the compression to 9.1! So far w/ this swap and the high flow head and header(coated) i should be pushing around 115 HP's, and only weighing 1900lbs!!! Also getting a dual point Mallory ignition. Right now im not sure what transmission to go w/, do you? Im buying from Shadetree Motors Ltd. have you heard of them before?

sounds ambitious! good luck with it and be sure to document the process for all of us to learn from!
i have heard of shadetree, but i don't know much about them. did you get the crossflow head? let me know how it works out for you. that might be a possibility for me if the Zetec conversion is too much work. as for trannies, i was planning on using a BorgWarner T5 from an 80's era Camaro for my project. bell housings are available to bolt right up to the MGB 1800cc engine without much extra work. the prop-shaft may have to be modified on a 3-main, IIRC. and the driveshaft may also have to be shortened. the other option would be to fit an MGB 4 speed with overdrive. the final option would be a Ford MT75 with bellhousing adapter plate. that will fit under the tranny tunnel of a B, but not sure about an A. |
