b18a swap
Hi i was just wondering if it would be ok to put a b18a into my 95 civic? i mean i know it wont pass for emmsions because its old, but what does emmisions actually look for when you have a swap? do you have to go there with papers for the motor? the motor will be rebuilt for FI before it goes in, but i was just wondering if it would be ok. I've seen a couple of people in this board with older engines, so i'm not sure. Any help or info would be great. I'm from VA if that matters. Also, what about the first gen. b16's? would that wire up to an OB1 car? THanks again!

well the reason i'm looking into the b18a/b is cus i can get a pretty good deal on their longblocks...and i'm starting from there.. also, does anyone know what else i would need for a complete swap (ie. tranny, ecu, axles, motormount)...and how hard is it to mate an auto longblock to a 5spd tranny? my car is a 5spd now so i dont need a lot...Can anyone tell me the difference between the 90-95 LS and the 96+ (bigger port?) and would a gsr intake man. do better on an LS for FI? Thanks again

Complete swap, in addition to the longblock, you also need an intake manifold, throttle body, and exhaust manifold, in addition to the things you said. Also, your Civic is a hydro tranny, while the B18A was a cable. Something to keep in mind. The auto and manual longblocks are the same. 90-93 (B18A) has smaller ports than the 94+ (B18B) GSR intake manifold will not fit onto a B18A/B head. Even if it could, it has longer runners, so I wouldn't use it for FI.

well the long block that i'm getting includes both intake and ex. manifolds, wiring harness, all sensors, and TB...basically all i need now are the axles, mounts, tranny + linkage and ECU rite? which is better for FI, GSR or LS tranny? also, would it be ok to use a 94 engine and still pass emissions? How would they know what year the engine is off of? Thanks again
P.S. How much boost can i SAFELY run on stock LS internals? Lets say from a Greddy Td05 kit? |
