95 Civic DX price...

hey guys, i found a 95 civic DX sedan with 153 thousand miles and its a 5-speed. i was thinking of purchasing it for a "winter beater" and whenever the motor blows i can swap in a new motor . my goal for this car is to a reliable daily driver, so i figured a swap with I/H/E is sufficient.

now my question is do you think $2,000 is a reasonable price for it?

*edit: its a DX not an EX, as i originally wrote..

offer him 1500 cash and if he doesnt bite walk away. Its no deal you should be dieing to get. With that many miles it wont be a car you'll want to spend much on and it'll need alot of work shortly if it doesnt already.

Pick it up, and if you plan on swapping the motor...why not...
$1500 is cheap.

i went with him to look at it. the body really isnt in bad shape and it'll be his swapped winter beater. the miles dont make much of a difference. Also he wont go any lower, he said he would go to 1900 only if he could take the cd player out. He got a quote of like 1600 from carmax for a trade off or something like that. Seems like a good price to me.

well dude high milage civics are a dime a dozen. Tell him you're only interested if its 1500 cash. Otherwise tell him to call you after it sits for 8 months.

You NEVER pay listed price on a used car. 2k is high and 1900 is no different. AND... if he got a quote of 1600 then its not worth 2k even if its got a better deck. Car improvements mean nothing when selling a used car. You dont pay 2030 because he got his oil changed two weeks ago and its like he's given you a free oil change.

Shit like that doesnt fly and he's gonna scam your young ass if you arent carefull. Be willing to walk away if he doesnt drop the price.. or show up with just 1500 in cash and say thats all I got. See what happens... this isnt yuor only chance to get a beater and so save your money. It'd only sit all summer anyways.

Oh and the worst thing you could do to a car like this is put anymore money into then is needed to keep it on the road. Anything but maintainence is a joke.

the private party value for the car retails from $2400-$3400 and the final price was $1850 with a cd player in it instead of the tape player it originally came with. i know it has fairly high miles, but they are mostly highway and for cryin' out loud its a Honda!

even if the motor decides to die withing the next year, highly unlikely since it runs great, i can then swap a new motor...

just for comparison in pricing, my buddy got a 92 civic CX and its spitting a lil bit of oil out of the exhaust for 2 grand...

yeah yeah...i know the CX is a better platform, but talk about sleeper style with a swapped 4-door; nobody ever suspects 4-door civics to be fast

If the car has been driven well for all 150k of those miles it will be a very reliable car to own...my 94 dx has almost 190k and is still goin strong...there have been a few problems with suspension and whatnot...but the motor has NEVER had a problem...starts and drives damn well every day of the damn week...i wouldn't mind a swap though...
