IP blocker my ass
So I use Kazaalite as I'm sure many of you do (or other P2P programs) and do so with fairly good success. The reason I downloaded KLite was because it supposedly had a built-in IP blocker. Found out today that may not be the case. I got an email from my ISP which contained a forwarded email from a company called Mediasentry who does detective-type work online to protect copyrights in which they had listed my IP address, username, name of the movie I was "distributing", and even the time they found it. It scared the living shit out of me at first, but all I apparently (after talking to my ISP) need to do is delete the file (you bet your ass I did). Apparently this was just a warning. If I do it again...that is to say if I get caught again, they'll terminate my service no questions asked. The sad thing is...I dl'ed a movie I didn't really wanna see that much in the first place (Gothika)...I just wanted to see how much like the original it was. What's this country coming to when a poor college student can't illegally download copyrighted materials? Hehe. j/k...but I'm still wondering if I should just delete the program altogether.

If you're at all worried about getting caught, just delete that crap and don't mess with it.

As much as I hated to do it, I just diabled my sharing for the time being. I had a bunch of other stuff they could've nailed me for as well (S.W.A.T, Donnie Darko, Scaty Movie 3, Mothman Prophecies, Signs, etc.) but they just tried to dl the 1 file and they were only concerned about my "distribution" of it (which on my end was unintentional...I generally move the whole movies I dl into a seperate file that isn't available to dl). I'm just pissed the IP blocker isn't really an IP blocker. Unless this is like The Big Hit (where they had the "Trace Buster Buster") and they've got an IP blocker blocker. *shrug*

There are better places to download stuff other than kazzalight.
I use that to get a song or two..nothing big. If you want full movies, games, software, episodes, misc stuff, this place has access to most of them. Just be patient and don't mind waiting a bit for it to download, use bittorrent. what you do is search google and for "bittorrent" (I think that's how it's spelt). Install. Then goto www.suprnova.org Look through the list, or search at the top for download of choice. Save as the "name".torrent file (1 kb) to your computer which acts as a link to other people who are getting the program at the same time. Double click the file, choose where you want to save the folder with the download of choice, click ok. It'll sometimes take a while before it connects and starts downloading. If this is the case, just let it sit, do not try and do anything else to it. The way this program works is it downloads according to your upload speed. This is due to the reason that as soon as you download a portion of the file(s) you instantly start to upload back to other people. So there is no one main server, and you don't get it of one person. Everyone downloads and uploads at the same time. Also, at the moment, there's no way to trace this back to you easily. |

Those ip blockers are worthless. I assume its the one that "blocks suspected IPs of the law enforcment"? If the recive a dynamic IP all they have to do is renew it.
Unless the list blocks the whole sub-net (which isn't likely because then anyone using that ISP is blocked from kazza servers). But lets say they have a static ip. Im more than sure they have a deal with ISPs to change IPs at will for a lesser charge. The ISPs defintly are not going to take a lawsuit for any of its customers. |

Basically, if you share, you can get caught. MP3s, movies, software, doesn't matter. All they have to do is record your IP, etc. Whether your ISP has to give you up is still on trial right now. They overturned it once though.

You're probably fine with those Cash. I think it's mostly the RIAA and bigger movie studios trying to nail you. I was really pissed that my ISP gave me up so easily when they didn't have to. I had an email literally within a few hours of these people dl'ing that file. So f@ck my ISP, f@ck the company that tried to screw me, and f@ck Warner Bros. I don't think you'd get in trouble for the DBZ stuff, but the Princess Mononoke is a little bit more iffy. It doesn't matter if the "creator" dl'ed it from you (if it was, in fact, really him)...the studio is the one who has the disgretion to prosecute people.

I love suprnova.org... but the bit about you not being able to be traced isn't accurate. All they'd need to do is to start downloading that torrent and then do a netstat at the command prompt and it'd list all the ip addresses of the people you are downloading and uploading to. |

Oh hmmm...never knew that. THe thing is there are so many torrent that they'd literally have to go through everyone everytime to catch people. I think it's a bit harder and more tedious than kazaa

Oh trust me...if they think they'll catch ANYONE, they'll do it. And by "they", I mean all of those bastards who suck.
