this is NOT an e-racing forum
do not ask these kinds of questions and ls/vtec is stupid...thats all im going to say about it There are several threads that you can find on the topic by searching...I suggest you do that. |

i personally dont see the problem w/ lsvtec, it might not last half a million miles but its not that bad and certainly no where near as bad as Fatal070 is saying. but yeah search.
I also dont buy that "if it was great, honda would do it" that 2ndGenTeg was touting in his long post. Honda doesnt do alot of things(LIKE TURBO ANY OF THEIR MOTORS!) doesnt mean you cant do it, and get great results. |

You also have to change the oil every 1,500 miles just so it will last and whats the point of making ls vtec were I bet it won't last a year... Here since everyone is being so mean check this site out.... http://www.phatwhippincrx.20m.com/custom4.html I took this from the site above its on ls vtec and i couldn't agree more... "LS/VTEC is a fad, and I predict that it will be all but a pleasant memory in a few short years. As soon as kids start snapping rods and putting pistons through cylider walls, they'll realize how important good engine geometry is. Add that to the fact that they're running stock cams (because it's all their engine can safely handle) and getting burned by kids running Todas, or Juns, and they'll wish they had just stuck with their trusty B18C. Like I said, if it was all that great, Honda would have done it in the first place." |

well it looks like we're turning this into the official ls+b20/vtec thread....
anyway Az do you have anything to back up your side of the argument? another thing i've noticed is that a lot of tuner mags have been doing write ups on b20+ls/vtec conversions.... Not to mention it seems like a shit load of work to get one to work, i'd rather just build a b series w/o vtec. I don't think it's so great to the point that you need to go through all that work.

I agree with you there man... it just doesn't seem worth it all that work on something that's not going to last as long as a b series that doesn't need vtec added to it... |

well over time i've read alot of info about people who actually HAVE lsvtec engines and not having problems while running the engines in daily driven cars for years. When people do have problems its because the didn't do it right in the first place. |

and i agree, if you have a shop build it, and design it so it can rev high, then it is possible to have a ls/vtec combination that can make some serious power and be reliable. But it's rare because most people are trying to just slap on a vtec head to their 120xxx mile B series block and think they're going to break some horsepower record. So i'd say that without doing internal work and other things to complement the new head, then ls/vtec is stupid/pointless.
point in case backyard built ls/vtec= sucks more than a hoover properly built ls/vtec with new internals= can kick ass

yup, kinda like using forced induction. if you do it wrong you'll screw something up, but done right you'll have plenty of power and reliability.
to do lsvtec right, everyone recommends using stronger aftermarket rods or at the very least ARP rod bolts, as well as using the oil /water pump out of a vtec block. theres other junk you're supposed to do, thats all i can remember. |

Jeebus, I have a n/a b20vtec and I was gonna make a new thread elsewhere for ignition opinions. I may just hafta do that elsewhere.
Comment to the guy who made the 1 year remark By the way, my cousins got a turbo'd lsvtec and it's lasted longer than 3 years. ..and no, it's not the only one that's lasted that long. Oh yeah..and for the one that would rather build a b20 non vtec..I, too think that'd be spiffy, for a turbo set up.. but for the rest of us N/A set ups, we need that vtec. I know I could have just quoted and then responded, but my quote thing won't work correctly.

That's one ironic post. It's funny how people generally say ls/b20vtecs are so unreliable, I always figured that any heavily modded car has the chance of being unreliable. As for the snapping rods and cylinder walls comment...don't ya wonder why people get sleeves? Hence why I just purchased Darton Sleeves . Stock cams..? Of all the lsvtec/b20vtec people I know..no one has stock cams, and FYI, I used Skunk2Stage2 cams for awhile and it "handled just fine." Oh..and this b20vtec is in a 4dr GSR..so, yes, I opted and sold the b18c1 to try something else..and I might add, I happen to enjoy myself.

dammit.... another LSCRVTEC drama.... ha ha ha..
I feel the same tho. I think that if it's built right, it will work fine and last. My buddy hit 455whp on a built LSVTEC turbo. This is with a cheap ass GE sleeves, Eagle rods, Wiseco pistons, and stock JDM GSR head. He has been running this set-up for over a year but before that the same motor has been abused by 100 shot nitrous. I know for a fact that he beats the shit out of that car almost on a daily basis.... it still runs strong. ...... or he might just be lucky. It doesnt matter to me. Engine dynamics becomes a sensitive subject when hybrid motors are discussed. The way I look at it, there are aftermarket options out there that can improve such hybrid applications. ........ no need to quote me..... I'm not changing my mind... ha ha. I'll just watch this topic to see how it develops. I've seen enough opinion exchanges about this subject all over the H/A web board. |

The last block that I had and just recently sold was 84.5mm. Hm, do you know anyone that's sellin a b20 short block? I'm not too concerned if it's stock or bare, I just need one ASAP. I might even settle for LS right now. Let me know

Geez LYNA..make a mess why dont ya...multiple posts for no reason (you can edit btw)
You have to use a host website to post multiple pics (I use http://www.imageshack.us - the text at the top is what you'll post for the pics ( [ img ] askdjf [ /img ] ) just copy and paste it into the thread That ls looks excellent on the outside for that price...Im amazed. Has it been opened up yet? |
