Who do you trust???

I copied this off another site, its kinda long but well worth the time to read.

President George W. Bush: Received a Bachelors Degree from Yale University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He served as an F-102 pilot for the Texas Air National Guard. He began his career in the oil and gas business in Midland in 1975 and worked in the energy industry until 1986. He was elected Governor on November 8, 1994, with 53.5 percent of the vote. In a historic re-election victory, he became the first Texas Governor to be elected to consecutive four-year terms on November 3, 1998 winning 68.6 percent of the vote. In 1998 Governor Bush won 49 percent of the Hispanic vote, 27 percent of the African-American vote, 27 percent of Democrats and 65 percent of women. He won more Texas counties, 240 of 254, than any modern Republican other that Richard Nixon in 1972 and is the first Republican gubernatorial candidate to win the heavily Hispanic and Democratic border counties of El Paso, Cameron and Hidalgo. (Someone began circulating a false story about his I.Q. being lower than any other President. If you believed it, you might want to go to URBANLEGENDS.COM and see the truth.)

Vice President Dick Cheney earned a B.A. in 1965 and a M.A. in 1966, both in political science. Two years later, he won an American Political Science Association congressional fellowship. One of Vice President Cheney's primary duties is to share with individuals, members of Congress and foreign leaders, President Bush's vision to strengthen our economy, secure our homeland and win the War on Terrorism. In his official role as President of the Senate, Vice President Cheney regularly goes to Capital Hill to meet with Senators and members of the House of Representatives to work on the Administration's legislative goals. In his travels as Vice President, he has seen first hand the great demands the war on terrorism is placing on the men and women of our military, and he is proud of the tremendous job they are doing for the United States of America.

Secretary of State Colin Powell was educated in the New York City public schools, graduating from the City College of New York (CCNY), where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in geology. He also participated in ROTC at CCNY and received a commission as an Army second lieutenant upon graduation in June 1958. His further academic achievements include a Master of Business Administration Degree from George Washington University. Secretary Powell is the recipient of numerous U.S. and foreign military awards and decorations. Secretary Powell's civilian awards include two Presidential Medals of Freedom, the President's Citizens Medal, the Congressional Gold Medal, the Secretary of State Distinguished Service Medal, and the Secretary of Energy Distinguished Service Medal. Several schools and other institutions have been named in his honor and he holds honorary degrees from universities and colleges across the country.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld: attended Princeton University on Scholarship (AB, 1954) and served in the U.S. Navy (1954-57) as a Naval aviator ; Congressional Assistant to Rep. He earned a scholarship to Harvard, graduating with honors in 1967. After his first year at The Dickinson School of Law, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as an infantry staff sergeant in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star for Valor. After returning to Pennsylvania, he earned his Law Degree and was in private practice before becoming Assistant District Attorney in Erie County. He was elected to Congress in 1982. He was the first enlisted Vietnam combat veteran elected to the U.S. House, and was overwhelmingly re-elected six times. National

Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice Rice earned her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Denver in 1974; her Master's from the University of Notre Dame in 1975; and her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver in 1981.. (Note: Rice enrolled at the University of Denver at the age of 15, graduating at 19 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science (Cum Laude). She earned a Master's Degree at the University of Notre Dame and a Doctorate from the University of Denver's Graduate School of International Studies. Both of her advanced degrees are also in Political Science.) From 1989 through March 1991, the period of German reunification and the final days of the Soviet Union, she served in the Bush Administration as Director, and then Senior Director, of Soviet and East European Affairs in the National Security Council, and a Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. In 1986, while an international affairs fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations, she served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. While comparing the education and experience of these two groups, we should also remember that President Bush and his cabinet are briefed daily, even hourly, on the War on Terror and threats to our security. They are privy to information gathered around the world concerning the Middle East, the threats to America, the intentions of terrorists and terrorist-supporting governments. They are in constant communication with the CIA, the FBI, Interpol, NATO, The United Nations, our own military, and that of our allies around the world. We cannot simply believe that we have full knowledge of the threats because we watch CNN!! We cannot believe that we are in any way as informed as our leaders. These celebrities have no intelligence-gathering agents, no fact-finding groups, no insight into the minds of those who would destroy our country. They only have a deep seated hatred for all things Republican. By nature, and no one knows quite why, the Hollywood elitists detest Conservative views and anything that supports or uplifts the United States of America. The silence was deafening from the Left when Bill Clinton bombed a pharmaceutical factory outside of Khartoum, or when he attacked the Bosnian Serbs in 1995 and 1999. He bombed Serbia itself to get Slobodan Milosevic out of Kosovo, and not a single peace rally was held. When our Rangers were ambushed in Somalia and 18 young American lives were lost, not a peep was heard from Hollywood. Yet now, after our nation has been attacked on its own soil, after 3,000 Americans were killed by freedom-hating terrorists while going about their routine lives, they want to hold rallies against the war. Why the change? Because an honest, God-fearing Republican sits in the White House. Another irony is that in 1987, when Ronald Reagan was in office, the Hollywood group aligned themselves with disarmament groups like SANE, FREEZE and PEACE ACTION, urging our own government to disarm and freeze the manufacturing of any further nuclear weapons, in order to promote world peace. It is curious that now, even after we have heard all the evidence that Saddam Hussein has chemical, biological and is very close to obtaining nuclear weapons, their is no cry from this group for HIM to disarm. They believe we should leave him alone in his quest for these weapons of mass destruction, even though it is certain that these deadly weapons will eventually be used against us in our own cities. So why the hype out of Hollywood? Could these celebrities believe that since they draw such astronomical salaries, they are entitled to also determine the course of our Nation? That they can make viable decisions concerning war and peace? Did Michael Moore have the backing of the Nation when he recently thanked France, on our behalf, for being a "good enough friend to tell us we were wrong"? I know for certain he was not speaking for me. Does Sean Penn fancy himself a Diplomat, in going to Iraq when we are just weeks away from war? Does he believe that his High School Diploma gives him the knowledge (and the right) to go to a country that is controlled by a maniacal dictator, and speak on behalf of the American people? Or is it the fact that he pulls in more money per year than the average American worker will see in a lifetime? Does his bank account give him clout? The ultimate irony is that many of these celebrities have made a shambles of their own lives, with drug abuse, alcoholism, numerous marriages and divorces, scrapes with the law, publicized temper tantrums, etc. How dare they pretend to know what is best for an entire nation! What is even more bizarre is how many people in this country will listen and accept their views, simply because they liked them in a certain movie, or have fond memories of an old television sitcom! It is time for us, as citizens of the United States, to educate ourselves about the world around us. If future generations are going to enjoy the freedoms that our forefathers bequeathed us, if they are ever to know peace in their own country and their world, to live without fear of terrorism striking in their own cities, we must assure that this nation remains strong. We must make certain that those who would destroy us are made aware of the severe consequences that will befall them. Yes, it is a wonderful dream to sit down with dictators and terrorists and join hands, singing Cumbaya and talking of world peace. But it is not real. We did not stop Adolf Hitler from taking over the entire continent of Europe by simply talking to him. We sent our best and brightest, with the strength and determination that this Country is known for, and defeated the Nazi regime. President John F. Kennedy did not stop the Soviet ships from unloading their nuclear missiles in Cuba in 1962 with mere words. He stopped them with action, and threat of immediate war if the ships did not turn around. We did not end the Cold War with conferences. It ended with the strong belief of President Ronald Reagan.... PEACE through STRENGTH.

Just FYI... here's a little more accurate (while brief) run down on Bush...

Alright forget brief read for yourself... search for "bush the deserter" or "shady bush dealings" and so on, on google and see who YOU trust.

He was awol from his service in the AIR NATIONAL GUARD during vietnam... beyond the fact that it's an embarrasement that he took the cake walk because he could but he doesn't even put on a show and show up to fly plane's and "have fun" as a certain air force member has told us it is.

"The alleged acts include being Absent Without Leave (UCMJ
Article 86) for a period of MORE THAN a year from his National Guard
assignments in Texas and Alabama. "

If you look the word "nepatism" up in the dictionary there's a picture of bush...

He's been HANDED investment deals that the pope wouldn't give to GOD... his hand in the rangers... texas oil.... etc etc... are ALL with no merit or personal value... well until he became governor/president... he's a spoiled retarded little monkey....

If you want to post something pro military or pro his administration great,... but leave him out... most of his cabinet are respectable trust-worthy people... bush himself is the lowest form of human on this earth... he is the poster child for the failure of our political system and beyond that he's just plain stupid.... no not "not well spoken" STUPID...

HE TRIED TO EVADE BEING ENVOLVED IN A PRE-ELECTION DEBATE FOR GOD'S SAKE.

Seriously if your plan is to build support for him specifically then try to avoid making him out to be something he's not... and as far as Yale... come on now he was a beer drinking coke snorting CHEERLEADER. If you think he earned ANYTHING he has in his life other than critisizm than your nuts.

If you want to build support for the war or his administration LEAVE HIM OUT... he makes it WAY to easy to lose people.

the other folks (minus celebrities) are while still flawed (cheezey as it sounds) american heroes.

And just because ford was dumber don't make bush a genious... lowest or not he is a irreprehensible MORON.

book smarts does not mean you are a good human being. greed does evil things to a person. just because you look smart on paper dosnt mean that your morals are just when it comes to the lives of people you'll never see, and only have to think of them on paper when you can gane some political support and power.

you see how devistated people where from the 911 attacks. that struck home, everyone of any age that could understand what happened felt sorry. that was only 3000 people. now imagine the magnitude of the WWII nukes and the lives that effected, maybe on paper 350,000 civilian deaths(instant impact+after effects of the radiation) and who knows what other effects where had seemed acceptable compaired to the lives of our military that knew they were putting their lives on the line to protect a country.

death is too serious to play with, im sorry, a lost loved one is too major to be throwing around lightly. special ops teams could have taken out saddam if all else failed, he was not cooperating with the world, but sometimes civil war or war between 2 countries, expecialy in an area that will ALWAYS be at war over holy lands and what not, is good for progress, look how much america grew from a civil war, since everyone is so bent on americanizing the world, maybe we should let them be, like the world did when the "new world" was fighting a few hundred years ago. it is sad to say, but we are doing more harm than good in the mid-east. all these "terrorists" are non country affiliated, but a group of rouge people upset because of the death of their family members and friends. we may think we are doing the right thing by freeing them, but all it takes is a very small group of people to hi-jack a plane and crash it into a building. why give someone another reason to hate us. if we are tehre to support our ally, then lets do that. if we are there to disarm iraq, then lets find some bombs however long it takes. they cannot launch them if they are moving them from bunker to bunker every day, if we are mad about countries mis-treating their people, lets look at countries really doing some damage. we have enough problems at home that our money could be better spent on. with everything we shot the FIRST day, we could have supplied the ENTIRE country with free medicare for a whole year.

there is no way out of this war now, i only wish for the best for our troops and hope that our leaders do not have greed or power as a driving force in this operation(since technicaly it is not a war) at all.

im glad to know you can sleep well at night knowing that in the past our leaders have made decisions to wipe out entire citys, or dump chemicals 3rd world countries

look what we've done with agnet orange, these desisions were made by our highly educated leaders

http://www.geocities.com/jadams_85601/agentorange.html

oh shit... we used agent orange on our own troops... good going

http://whyfiles.org/025chem_weap/2.html

so where do we put it? in the ocean

http://www.ahherald.com/readers_writ...t_just_mud.htm

good going us again, we left radioactive material in iraq over 10 years ago, and look it is killing the people we are trying to save

http://www.xs4all.nl/~stgvisie/VISIE/iraq.html

we are killing our people also, its just how the media puts a spin on it to make it look ok for us to do it since it was for a "greater good". im sorry death is death, and any way to aviod it is better than putting humans against humans for the reason to fight with deadly weapons. if lives must be lost, lets use our highly trained special force teams to stratigicaly go in and eliminate a threat, since that is what you want right? how about instead of telling soemone to get the f*ck out of your country because tey do not support this war, you get off your ass, and sign up for the military and do something about it. i am doing what i think i should do, and that is not fight. you(not just you, but everyone who is all 100% pro-war) preach how much we should fight and how unpatriotic someone is for not supporting it. well heres a little bit of info for you, im very greatful for my freedom in this country, i value the rights i have, and i like to use them. i do think that what goes on over in the mid-east is bad, and deffinfialy wrong, but are the lives of US and iraqi troops, iraqi civilians, and the later chance of even more terrorist gourps worth a war? their troops are not heartless killing machines with no familys and lives, they are human, just like you.

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."--Hermann Goering, Hitler's designated successor, before being sentenced to death at the Nuremburg trials.

granted hitler was a VERY evil man, but aside from the holocaust he was a great politicion by getting a whole country to support him. he knew the way a majority worked and how to win them over. im glad that here people can speak their mind without being killed like the nazi's would do to those who disagreed...

take it or leave it, but you voice your opinion, i voice mine

Cheney’s oil company in shady deals with Iraq By Martin A. Lee

Reality Bites Column copyright: San Francisco Bay Guardian

Here's a whopper of a story you may have missed amid the cacophony of campaign ads and stump speeches in the run-up to the elections. During former defense secretary Richard Cheney's five-year tenure as chief executive of Halliburton, Inc., his oil services firm raked in big bucks from dubious commercial dealings with Iraq. Cheney left Halliburton with a $34 million retirement package last July when he became the GOP's vice-presidential candidate.

Of course, U.S. firms aren't generally supposed to do business with Saddam Hussein. But thanks to legal loopholes large enough to steer an oil tanker through, Halliburton profited big-time from deals with the Iraqi dictatorship. Conducted discreetly through several Halliburton subsidiaries in Europe, these greasy transactions helped Saddam Hussein retain his grip on power while lining the pockets of Cheney and company.

According to the Financial Times of London, between September 1988 and last winter, Cheney, as CEO of Halliburton, oversaw $23.8 million of business contracts for the sale of oil-industry equipment and services to Iraq through two of its subsidiaries, Dresser Rand and Ingersoll-Dresser Pump, which helped rebuild Iraq's war-damaged petroleum-production infrastructure. The combined value of these contracts exceeded those of any other U.S. company doing business with Baghdad.

Halliburton was among more than a dozen American firms that supplied Iraq's petroleum industry with spare parts and retooled its oil rigs when U.N. sanctions were eased in 1998. Cheney's company utilized subsidiaries in France, Italy, Germany, and Austria so as not to draw undue attention to controversial business arrangements that might embarrass Washington and jeopardize lucrative ties to Iraq, which will pump $24 billion of petrol under the U.N.-administered oil-for-food program this year. Assisted by Halliburton, Hussein's government will earn another $1 billion by illegally exporting oil through black-market channels.

With Cheney at the helm since 1995, Halliburton quickly grew into America's number-one oil-services company, the fifth-largest military contractor, and the biggest nonunion employer in the nation. Although Cheney claimed that the U.S. government "had absolutely nothing to do" with his firm's meteoric financial success, State Department documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times indicate that U.S. officials helped Halliburton secure major contracts in Asia and Africa. Halliburton now does business in 130 countries and employs more than 100,000 workers worldwide. Its 1999 income was a cool $15 billion.

In addition to Iraq, Halliburton counts among its business partners several brutal dictatorships that have committed egregious human rights abuses, including the hated military regime in Burma (Myanmar). EarthRights, a Washington, D.C.-based human rights watchdog, condemned Halliburton for two energy-pipeline projects in Burma that led to the forced relocation of villages, rape, murder, indentured labor, and other crimes against humanity. A full report (this is a 45 page pdf file - there is also a brief summary) on the Burma connection, "Halliburton's Destructive Engagement," can be accessed on EarthRights' Web site, www.earthrights.org.

Human rights activists have also criticized Cheney's company for its questionable role in Algeria, Angola, Bosnia, Croatia, Haiti, Rwanda, Somalia, Indonesia, and other volatile trouble spots. In Russia, Halliburton's partner, Tyumen Oil, has been accused of committing massive fraud to gain control of a Siberian oil field. And in oil-rich Nigeria, Halliburton worked with Shell and Chevron, which were implicated in gross human rights violations and environmental calamities in that country. Indeed, Cheney's firm increased its involvement in the Niger Delta after the military government executed several ecology activists and crushed popular protests against the oil industry.

Halliburton also had business dealings in Iran and Libya, which remain on the State Department's list of terrorist states. Brown and Root, a Halliburton subsidiary, was fined $3.8 million for reexporting U.S. goods to Libya in violation of U.S. sanctions.

But in terms of sheer hypocrisy, Halliburton's relationship with Saddam Hussein is hard to top. What's more, Cheney lied about his company's activities in Iraq when journalists fleetingly raised the issue during the campaign.

Questioned by Sam Donaldson on ABC's This Week program in August, Cheney bluntly asserted that Halliburton had no dealings with the Iraqi regime while he was on board.

Donaldson: I'm told, and correct me if I'm wrong, that Halliburton, through subsidiaries, was actually trying to do business in Iraq?

Cheney: No. No. I had a firm policy that I wouldn't do anything in Iraq – even arrangements that were supposedly legal.

And that was it! ABC News and the other U.S. networks dropped the issue like a hot potato. As damning information about Halliburton surfaced in the European press, American reporters stuck to old routines and took their cues on how to cover the campaign from the two main political parties, both of which had very little to say about official U.S. support for abusive corporate policies at home and abroad.

But why, in this instance, didn't the Democrats stomp and scream about Cheney's Iraq connection? The Gore campaign undoubtedly knew of Halliburton's smarmy business dealings from the get-go. Gore and Lieberman could have made hay about how the wannabe GOP veep had been in cahoots with Saddam. Such explosive revelations may well have swayed voters and boosted Gore's chances in what was shaping up to be a close electoral contest.

The Democratic standard-bearers dropped the ball in part because Halliburton's conduct was generally in accordance with the foreign policy of the Clinton administration. Cheney is certainly not the only Washington mover and shaker to have been affiliated with a company trading in Iraq. Former CIA Director John Deutsch, who served in a Democratic administration, is a member of the board of directors of Schlumberger, the second-largest U.S. oil-services company, which also does business through subsidiaries in Iraq. Despite occasional rhetorical skirmishes, a bipartisan foreign-policy consensus prevails on Capital Hill, where the commitment to human rights, with a few notable exceptions, is about as deep as an oil slick.

Truth be told, trading with the enemy is a time-honored American corporate practice – or perhaps "malpractice" would be a more appropriate description of big-business ties to repressive regimes. Given that Saddam Hussein, the pariah du jour, has often been compared to Hitler, it's worth pointing out that several blue-chip U.S. firms profited from extensive commercial dealings with Nazi Germany. Shockingly, some American companies – including Standard Oil, Ford, ITT, GM, and General Electric – secretly kept trading with the Nazi enemy while American soldiers fought and died during World War II.

Today General Electric is among the companies that are back in business with Saddam Hussein, even as American jets and battleships attack Iraq on a weekly basis using weapons made by G.E. But the United Nations sanctions committee, dominated by U.S. officials, has routinely blocked medicines and other essential items from being delivered to Iraq through the oil-for-food program, claiming they have a potential military "dual use." These sanctions have taken a terrible toll on ordinary Iraqis, and on children in particular, while the likes of Halliburton and G.E. continue to lubricate their coffers.

I support the soldiers. I don't support the government.

Actors don't protest going into Croatia: Simple, widespread ethnic cleansing. Funny though that the US took so damn long to go in despite cries for help from the people. It has nothing to do with Democrat vs. Republican.

The people of America saw blatant proof and more of it that ethnic cleansing was going on in that region. As if mass graves weren't enough proof for you. What proof has Bush offered us? Bear in mind that some of these "intelligence dossiers" were plagiarized academic papers that were written back before Daddy went into Iraq.

Whether Saddam is a threat or not, I have yet to see any good proof that he is. I suspect that he is, and I'd like to see him go just as much as anybody else.....but in a country where we pride our "justice" system for requiring enough proof to convict someone that large portions of guilty people run free where's the proof for this one???????

There's obviously a lot of pros and cons to all of this. And there is no one that I really trust or will listen to other than myself.

I know that I'd trust them more than any of the little pansy ass actors and celebs... That's because I will back our govt at a time like this.. I don't really care what quotes you're able to pull up- any one can slander any one- I could discredit any one of you given $100.00 and a little time to investigate. So everyone needs to get off there high horse I don't see u governing our people and leeding us to peace and harmony through out the world... When did everyone become such big weiners in the US??????

i know. someone going behind your back doing what you think they are fighting against and trying to stop really gives a huge reason to trust them. expecialy when it is all about saving their own money, or making some of their own. its funny, i bet you were one of the ones who said since cliton had relations with lewinski that he deserved to be impeached. but when there is horrific evidence that makes you question someones morals and intent for the well being of the country, its ok because they went to yale(which i might add bush got the cakewalk through yale) or whatever other expensive college of their choice.
