screeching belt
please help i have a screeching belt, when i start my car in the morning when it is cold. I just had all my belts changed about 20,000 miles ago. When i had the belts changed then it wasn't cold so i coulnd't tell if it was doing it or not. Anyway anyone have a clue what belt it is ??

try to recheck and tighten all belts. I had this probem when i changed alternators, I had to tighten the belt that was connected to the alternator.

so you changed your ac/power steering/alternator belts, but not the timing belt?

yes, of course i changed the timing belt, and water pump too.

yeah check the tensions on all the belts, if that doesnt fix it, I think autoparts stores sell stuff that quites belts down. never used it, but i've heard of it.

^yup. some sorta grease/lube.
but i got a A/C belt that does it only when the air ison. turn all that off and start it. if so id be the ac belt.

i would assume it's not the a/c belt. It does screech when its on, but it also screeches when it isn't on. What other belt could it be? I guess i should just adjust all of them. Is it easy to adjust the tension on the belts? Or should I just take my car some where to have it done. My ex used to do all the work on my car. any suggestions?

i wouldn't rule out the a/c belt at all. you say it makes the noise worse when it is on? I would think that proves that that is the problem. Check that tension first.
