CAI Installation
I just bought an AEM CAI and it looks like I will have to widen the hole in the inner fender to fit the new tube. Has anyone else installed one of these and had to do this, and if so did you use a grinder? Any other install tips would be appreciated.

Yeah you gotta widen it. I used a dremel and cut one of the sides of the whole to fit. Then i smoothed the rough edge and painted it so it wont rust, then i split one of the thin vaccuum hoses in half length wise that arent needed anymore, and stuck it around the entire hole like a gasket, so the fit would look nice and the sides of the hole wont scratch the intake. I'm sure you dont have to go that crazy, but i like it to look real good.

Ok, I'm working on the install now and am having fun taking the inner fender well guard off. Is that something you had to do as well to get the resonator out and the new filter in?
Thanks. |

yup, and every time you clean the filter too.
also, use the grinder for the hole, it'll look like crap if you don't. See if you can find a 'flapper' wheel for the grinder it's much easier to make a pretty looking cut with it.

Thanks for your help SF, I got the thing in there and it was worth the battle. The difference is definitely noticeable. I used to have a Civic with an AEM intake, but the smaller engine must not have drawn as much air as I really hear a hiss when I gas it. And at about 5500 rpm the VTEC roars. Yah, so I guess you can tell I am happy with the addition. Thanks again!

Yah, I have a Tanabe cat-back exhaust and the two work together well. Air in + Air Out = fun.
