Building a Bobber..

This is what I've been up to.. I've been drooling over an old skool bike for a while. It's a 1978 Yamaha XS650. I ran across this little beauty for $100 from a guy on one of the motorcycle forums I frequent. It doesn't have a title, and doesn't run at the moment. The owner before the guy I bought it from pulled out the wiring harness so all of the electrical pieces are sitting in a box. I'm going to weld in a hardtail section. I already bought a '68 Sportster tank from someone I work with. Hopefully this this is going to be the shit when get it finish (which won't be anytime soon I'm sure.) I picked up a '82 titled frame for it on Sunday..

There were some ghetto home made hardtail struts in the box. This removes that stock shocks and lowers the rear of the bike. This is just temporary until I get hardtail section welded onto the new frame. I also installed a set of dirtbike bars I had laying around the garage. I'm going to get a new pair that won't hang down quite as low for the final assembly.

Here it is with the sportster tank.

btw, the schwinn seat is temporary. I ordered a bunch more parts for it Tuesday. Just waiting for them to come in.

I definitely will thanks man!

Here are a few more pics I uploaded today.

Some more pics.. I'm grinding off the stock tank mounts for the tank to fit the frame..

XS650 Guard dog..

Tank mounted.. May grind alittle more out so that it sits further down. It's on there tight right now..

I got my hardtail tacked into place last night. Obviously the hardest part was making sure everything was square. We still need to finish welding everything up once I get the rest of the parts that I need to weld.

The TC Bros Choppers hardtail section is nice. The fit was very good. It came with instruction that were ok. The installation wasn't over difficult. I still have to go back and clean up the stock part of the frame and clean up the tack welds that we use to hold the frame in place since there was no motor in it.

Here are some updated pics since I haven't posted any in a while.

Got some more stuff mounted. It's nice having a welder now.

I like this stance.. Sits pretty comfy.

Got the seat mounted.

Battery box rails mounted.

Playing with an old pair of bmx bars. I really like these. I flipped them over and cut the C off. Just have to plug the holes with something. These are just test bars, they are a little tweaked from riding BMX.

I've been taking welding classes on Tuesday nights. Still have a lot of learning to do, but my welds see to be really strong. So that's a plus. lol It's fun building something with your hands. Makes you appreciate it more. So far I have about $800 or $900 in this.

Chris did you ever finish your guitar?
