First off a wax protects the paint. Many waxes now are cleaner waxes, but if you want your car to shine like never before wash, POLISH, then wax. Remember polishing removes the very top layers of your paint and takes out stains, oxidation, etc. If you do a half ass job of waxing your car it won't protect the paint for shit. If you do a good job then it should be good for months. The easy way to tell is if water beads up when you spray water on your car.
Also, don't wash your car with soap. Regardless of what Mequiers, Turtle Wax, or any other brand say about their "non-stripping" car wash soap...they all strip wax. And for god's sake don't use laundry detergent or dish soap... use plain water.. I would have my car detailed then wash it with only water for 4 months after that, and people always asked me if I just had it detailed.... I know it sounds nuts but use only water. |
