				 | if you want to add stuff, you just disable the shared component. . Amd.. right now I have a Duron 800, and it runs soo smooth.. Anyways, I need a new one, cause my little bro is on a P100.. so I'll give him the 800, and I'll take the XP2000(or whatever processor speed I decide to get)..

				 | They aren't horrible. I have a dual AMD board with onboard lan/sound and it works pretty well. I can also disable them and put in separate cards if I feel like it.

				 | well se, I'm planning on going with a Asus A7V8X.. with onboard lan+audio.. I need heavy duty audio support (since I work alot with music related stuff), so I'm guessing the audio wont cut it.. but the Lan should be ok, from what I heard.. Now can someone confirme that these shared components wont use cpu processor power or cpu ram?!

				 | They will use CPU power. Thats the nature of PCI components. All integrated components will still use the PCI bus. Its minimal at that. It was a big deal when we only had 166MHz to work with. But the the GHz machines don't flinch. The audio is probably decent for most people. But if you do music & such, you'll want a good card to handle it. The LAN is probably sufficent though.

				 | ok.. from what I understand, some integrated components are software based and others are hardware based.. and software based is what grabs cpu ressources.. Not the hardware based stuff.. then again, how do I know whats software/hardware based?!

All of your integrated components will use CPU power. The only types of add-ons that typically do not use your existing CPU are generally SCSI cards(high end versions, low end still use system processor), audio cards & some modems. Usually a product will state whether it uses an onboard processor or not. Or whether its hardware based. If it doesn't state either, then its software based.

				 | -Audio- Realtek 6-channel CODEC S/PDIF in/out interface humm, I dont like "codec" too much.. So ok, purely sofware. -LAN- Broadcom® 10/100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps Ethernet controller this looks ok.. this is the board: http://usa.asus.com/mb/socketa/a7v8x/specification.htm

				 | We use onboard NICS on all of our new machines.. They work fine. Everything else is pretty much what Addict said.

				 | The Realtek audio is so-so, regardless of whether its 6 channel or not. It may hold you over until you get a better card though.

Its nice because of the 6 channels. Other than that, the SB live is better.

				 | ah crap.. I dont need 6ch.. ok anyways, I'll give it a try and if its isnt enough, then I'll get a new Live5.1.. Again, thanks for your advice! I'll be buying in early May, so if anything comes up, that I should know of, please let me know. one week before I buy, I'll probably start a thread with the breakdown of what components I'm getting.. just for criticism..
