timing?

I have a b20a5 and was wondering, if I have intake and exhaust mods, wouldn't I need a "sooner" spark to keep up with the more free spinning engine? And if thats the case, then how does the ECU coordinate the fuel injectors with changes of the spark advance??? I have noticed that my car revs way quicker with the timing advanced all the way until the distributor stops in its adjustment range, am I going too far with the timing? or do I need bore out the adjustment range on the distributor?
