Temp gauge all over the place - new thermostat?
My car has been acting a little strange lately. The car will warm up, temp gauge acting normal, then it will move around (drop to cold, in between, etc.)
Is this a sign of a thermostat problem? Similar thing happened in a my family's Suburban lately and that was the fix...

well i would check the sensor connection first. it should be un the head underneath the distributor. migh as well you just have some oil on it or something. check the mitchel manuals and it will tell you the resistance for the sensor.

does it go down while your driving and up while your idling or just at random?

It is random. I suppose it could be a gauge problem also, but I'll check the sensor first. Usually, the gauge will register just fine after the car warms up. I'll be driving and it will slowly move down to cold, then eventually go back up, down, up, etc. Random behavior happens when I'm doing city driving or highway driving. Thanks for the suggestions Stefan, I'll look into that later today.
