SportShift transmission?

Hello, new user in the market for a nice 5th gen. Prelude... I've been wondering how the SportShift automatic works exactly... how close is it to really driving stick?

I must say that it's appealing to have the choice to shift or not to shift... sometimes I wish I had an automatic just cause I am too busy with something else in the car, or it's really late and I'd rather just cruise than shift gears all the time. But I won't accept a power-loss, if using the SportShift would affect torque or HP. Can someone give me some feedback?

Thanks lots!

well the rated flywheel hp and tq is the same since the SS and 5spd use the same engine, but as on any automatic tranny, theres more power loss, and the shifts arnt as fast or as hard as a true manual is. on the SS it is much harder to launch the car since you'd break youe tranny in no time if you nutral dropped it, and you cant rev up past 2000 or so rpms power breaking before the tires begin to spin. your best bet is to buy a 5spd. i love mine and it isnt as much of a hastle as its made out to be. i personaly never plan on buying another automatic if i can avoid it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Looks like I'll be considering the stick transmission then... another question: how well defined are the shift gates on the 5th gen? I ask because I've been spending a lot of time driving one of the new Celicas, and the gates are terrible!! It's very easy to mis-shift into 2nd from 3rd. Or worse, from 5th to 2nd. :o

How does it compare to the GSR Integra? I found that was an easy car to shift around in.

If you are worried about power loss at all, just get the stick. They're much more fun anyway, and the sportshift won't compare to actually using a clutch and shifting.
