better swap for 92' civic, H22A or B18? PLEASE READ!

Guys I'm trying to decide whether to go with a 2.2 vtec or a 1.8 vtec engine for a 92 civic hatchback. I need your advice on how much of a bigger hastle it is going to be for the 2.2 vtec. I'm planning on fully building it and would prefer the 2.2 since i've already done that motor in the past. Let me know any insight on this. Is there enough room to work with?? Does it mount straight in? any info on this would help lots . thanks

H22 is pretty heavy for a hatch.

you can swap the H22 into teh hatch. you have a little room in the bay once installing it but not a huge amount at all.

the one that besides the weight of the H22 in teh HB but once installed the H22 tends to lean to teh back of the engine bay and not flat like a stock or B18 would.

I guess besides building them up it would dpend on what other plans you might have to add such s like turbo or something liek that because if that's the case the H22 would be pushing it and generate alot of hot air under that hood...

we'll I'm just rambling but I hope this might help a little..but the Hybrid forum should get you some further feedback...

yea i was concerned about the room to work with. I'm planning on turbocharging it and don't know if there's enough room for the turbo , downpipe, wastegate, or piping.

If you are planning of turbo charging it, go with a B18B1. It is the Integra LS motor. 1.8 non-vtec. You can't run high boost on v-tec motors. You can build the B18B1 to be low compression and run 24 lbs of boost on it, vs the 11lbs max on the B18C5 (GSR). Plus B1 are a lot cheaper. You can get the motor, trans, and ECU for around $900

What do you mean 11lbs max on gsr motor? You mean stock internals right? I mean i've built a 2.2 before and ran 20 psi and i've seen gsr and si motors running 20+psi.

if you go with an h22 you will not need to turbo charge it. A bone stock h22 will push a civic hatch to run high 13's with a few othe mods like headers, cat, exhaust, intake, ignition, and you will be running low 13 to high 12's. But if you decide to go with an ignition your best bet is to convert from an internal coil to an external coil due to lack of power from the internal. Its an easy swap and is much needed when you car has some good mods to it.
