the biker is gonna be trying jogging
Well after talking with some people at work i've be encouraged to try out running. They say i have the body type for it (whatever that means) and i should be in good shape from all the biking i do.
So i've ordered a pair of high end running shoes (gonna get them at wholesale) they should be in at the end of the week. Now i'm just wondering who here is a jogger? I'm not sure how long my first few runs should be, should i be trying to run 5miles? Is that to much or to little? Remember my heart, legs and lungs are very strong, but i'm not sure how different running is from biking (other then the given). tips would be welcomed mt.biker |

Thats a tuff question...I think just running 2 miles will be good for the first run...just to see what you're capable of...then if thats cake, go for more...just don't rush into running 90 miles a week

Ahh, running, yuck!! I remember running a lot of 3 mile runs when I played field hockey. They always sucked! I’m not a runner, but more power to you Rob! I’d start off easy, maybe 3 miles at first, and then work your way into it. You wouldn’t want to overexert yourself on your first run. Also, my hockey coach always told us when running to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth and not to keep your arms too tight to your body. And body type is important. Running is really hard on your knees, so people with body types where their weight is more in their lower body like butt, hips and thighs shouldn’t run. Exercises like walking and biking are better for them. I read that in a magazine a while back. Happy running Rob!

i can only do about 2 miles of a fast jog, i go every now and then. not enough to improve real fast, but it keeps me in shape.

Since your already in good shape I would try 5 miles for the first run. See how you feel. If you can do it then run longer.

Keep in mind that the impact of running is a lot worse the biking.

thanks guys my shoes are coming in tomorrow, i'm getting a pair of new balance 854. So i'm gonna be going out thursday night for a run, i'm just heading out now for a ride so maybe i'll keep tomorrows run short like 5miles.
Erin thanks for the advice, i'm lean so i'd say my weight is in my legs and butt (thats from all the riding) i have low body fat @10% so i hope i'm all good. Dude maybe i'll work up to the 10miles a night how long does that take you though? other then the burning fat side to runningi'm getting into it because there are so many chicks that run and not enough that ride. If you can't beat em join em |

anyways things i've learned: 1- dont eat pizza and pop 30min before you go running 2- girls are the best motivators to keep running 3- girls sweat too 4- running is cool 5- running is the easiest way to meet girls 6- girls like runners 7- the sweetest ass can be found on a female jogger 8- girls who run are a different breed of females 9- running is hard 10- when you run dont forget to breath |
