Is this stupid or what
We have a school around here called Rehobeth, and their mascot is the Rebels. Well, some black people got together and threatened to sue the school if they didn't change their name, becuase they "got offended". So now they're going to be the Rehobeth Blue Jays ... LOL. I can't believe the stupid things people pull - it's really funny. I mean come on, the school's name goes wayyy back. That's the most immature response I've ever heard of ...

my middle school was voting on a new mascot back when i was just going in to it. the black panthers was the top choice, but it didnt make it because they thought it would offend or start some problems.... its a PC world and no one has the balls to offend anyone anymore.

the school my mom teaches at used to be called the Larson Blue devils, but that wasnt very PC, so they became the Rebels...

soon all the teams are gonna be called the tigers... oh wait that offends african americans because there are tigers in africa and that must be discriminatory against them... maybe mascots should go away all together- but then again, isn't it kind of geographically discriminitory to label a team by it's location- that excludes people that aren't in that area... maybe we should just have lots of teams that go by the numbers... well that wouldn't be fair cause team20 would want to be team1... hmm, well competition altogether is bad so let's just do away with football... and capitalism while we're at it...

I personally dont like the confederate flag, and what it stands for( and it DOES stand for something). But i'm not a redneck so maybe i just dont get it. I used to not really care but then I married a woman who is half black, half mexican and then i began to think a little more about it.

For a very large percentage of it, black people enslaved black people, whites just bought them. Slavery is still alive in Africa (although has been illegal for a good number of years now) and was very active for a very long time before any white person ever set foot on the continent. That's a fact that is very conveniently ignored in the tension between the colors. Europeans didn't enslave Africans anymore than Africans enslaved Africans, but Europeans face the blame.
It's the same thing that we see now with Islam. It's evil for a white person to spill Muslim blood, however Muslims kill one another all the time because they're from different sects. Go figure. See here's the general trend.....when people are similar there is a certain amount of crap that is considered tolerable, acceptable, or just flat out fine. However if somebody different steps in they are held to a much higher standard than the people in your "comfort zone" are held. Examples are why blacks call each other "N" all the time but it's not ok for whites. I'm sure each and every person on here can think of at least 1 thing that it's ok for a friend or relative to say to them that would offend you if someone you didn't know and is obviously different or not part of your group said. The problem that many people are just too stupid to understand is that crying out demanding something can do more harm to your cause than good. Personally I hate the NAACP and find them to be one of the most racist groups in the world with such company as the KKK. The biggest difference is their lack of a history of using force, but they use every scare tactic available in modern courtroom and media warfare. In my opinion they are only hurting the very cause they are trying to help. They are strangely reminiscent of PETA.....maybe a good idea, but overdone in such a bad way that every time they open their mouths its a bunch of ridiculous jibberish that makes me want to laugh....and cry. b |

Here's my bottom line (although I likewise agree with sc0rch). People in this country have been brainwashed to be on the defensive and believe that everyone is after them. White people watch the news and fear that blacks or hispanics will kill or rob them. Blacks get turned down for a job and immediately it's a racial thing. In reality everyone's the same and it's all just a different mindset. Down the way from me is a group of guys from the Marshall Islands. Do I hate them because I think they'll steal my car or break into my house? No. I hate them because they constantly stare at me. My point is nobody judges anyone on merit anymore...it's all black or white. Recently there was an attempted movement for reparations for slavery. Ok...I'll give you money if you can prove that I enslaved YOU personally. If not, f@ck you for trying to make a buck off of your ancestors suffering. People always want things they haven't earned for reasons either real or percieved. Hell...we've STILL got reservations for native americans and you don't hear nearly the b!tching from them that you do from the black community. If there was a native american Jesse jackson you bet they'd have half the f@ckin country. Man...I shouldn't have said that...no I'm just gonna get pissed about how that dumbass motherf@cker has set black people back a good decade because of his hypocritical sanctimony. Just look on the bright side...in a few decades...maybe centuries it goes one of two ways. Don't accept handouts from The Man because he's just tryin to keep you down, going into the regular business world is just playin The Man's game, etc etc etc. It's utterly ridiculous, really, and is an alienating attitude toward things. There is a certain element of cultural pride in jive, ebonics, Black English, etc. and learning how to speak "proper English" is again considered playin The Man's game..... Yeah I know it sounds pretty funny, but it's the basic truth. My father puts up with this shit every day in school where he teaches a variety of students from a variety of backgrounds, many of them low-income blacks. They value education the least of any of the groups in his classes, but it's not just the students, it's the parents. In their culture education isn't considered a good thing, it's more of The Man's games...... And I'm referring here to the GA black culture that I've been exposed to, I'm not saying all blacks in the US live by that same culture..... b |

^ yea and it has a lot to do with the kind of ppl thay are arond.. i go to a mosly white school.. and the blacks are verry into school.. because everybody else is.. but the school i went to before.. hahahahaha yea thats just a joke.. the teachers coudent hardly teach because of the behavier problems... As of the census before this last one black represented 12.7% of the American population and contributed to roughly 61% of the crime. You be the judge.

If it's not the color of your skin, it's your language, it's your accent, it's your clothes, it's your hairstyle, it's your teeth, it's your car, it's the way you walk, it's your body language, it's your manners, it's your sex, it's your sexual orientation, it's your religion.....there's always something that causes people to discriminate. I think it's more likely to be human nature because we, as people, are social beings. However we are social with those who are similar to us, people we can identify with. Of course people who are most like us we can usually identify with the most.....and you need some way to discriminate (not in the racist/negative sense) between or among people, it's profiling. I think that's human nature and is to be expected. The problem is where the discrimination becomes an outward expression to suppress, offend, annoy, harm, insult, or in any other way intentionally have a negative effect those who are different. b |

A lot of good replies. I agree with most of you, especially sc0rch. Racism has been around forever, and will always be around. That's like trying to get rid of individuality or something. You'll always have this one asshole who dosen't have respect for anyone or anything. I just wish everyone could just chill out and take a step back and see what racism has done to this country over the years, and they'd all be like, wtf all we have done through racism is bring the country down - along with the people in it.
