how LOW to GO???
i know there have been posts already about drops 100 or so times i am sure. but i havent seen any that relate to this exact question
i have a 97 Civic EX 4dr..currently i have 205/50/15 wheels that are 23.07 inches tall i want a set of 17" Enkei RSF2 rims that are 205/40/17. These are 23.45" tall........STock height is 23.46" for 185/65/14 wheels, so there is all of .01" difference in the overall height of the wheels and tires I do not completely understand the MONSTER TRUCK look thing with having bigger rims and no drop. iS it because the rim is so much larger in comparison to the tire? i want to drop around 1 & 1/2 inches, i want to drop for PERFORMANCE and HANDLING as well as LOOKS. but more for the handling.... i do NOT want to slam my car since i put 20-25K miles on my ride AS JDMB16 knows living in MEChaniCsVille u tend to drive alot to go places... does anyone have any pictures of their rides with 17" and 1 & 1/2" drop or close to it??? please post so i can see. i know to get a camber kit when dropping...Hell i need one anyways doing all those J turns and Power Slides on back roads in King William please help me out and lets see those rides |

it all depends on the car. my car looked like an suv at stock height with or the 14" dubs. i think your car will look good with those rims and a 1.5" drop. the fender gap is not that big anyways

ouch...but yeah Id go with a 1.5" drop Eibach ProKit's would be a good bet probably...dont drop it too low or you'll rub everytime you turn rolling the fenders makes it easier to fit larger wheels in there. |

1) you get the "monster 4x4" look because you are using a smaller sidewall. (i.e 40 series instead of 60)
2) dont waste your money on the eibach pro-kit. get h&r/neuspeed sport springs for $140 and keep the money saved in your bank account. 3) if you want performance and handling - go with a 15" or 16" lightweight wheel and strap on a 205/50-15 or 215(205)/40(45)-16. 4) at a 1"/1.5" drop you wont need a camber kit. just get an alignment. 5) as for rubbing, you wont rub if your wheels have the right offset. especially at a 1.5" drop. 6) car in sig....dropped about 2.75".....camber kit only in the rear (washers)....alignment done only in the front...... had the tires for 2yrs.....had the car that low for about 5 months. no abnormal wear, sold them (wheels & tires) to a guy in NY and he rode on the same tires until someone cut them. 7) a 205 is not even remotely wide. 8) euro tails are not ok. |

i cant drop more than an inch in the rear caue i am only 1 1/4" tire to fender,
205 is wide eneough with the wrong offset to sit out to far ie. my 205/50/15 are not sitting under the car totally, and extra inch of traction to the ground makes a hell of a lot of difference in cornering. U mean to tell me that a 205/40/17 doesnt handle well? i was told that with less sidewall car handles better. the Nuespeed springs that u speak of, do they have a matched set of shocks that u can get? ALtezza's are fine, esp on my car, i am not going for sleeper look. and the damn stock tails for the 97 sedan/coupe suCK. i might take the altezza's off when i get the gunmetal rims but not until then. |

i wasnt speaking in a way in which you had to justify your mods.....it was just my opinion.
anyway.....a 205/40-17 will handle good. but most 17's are heavy, which doesnt help in the way of performance. so a 205/40-16 will handle just as good and weigh less (depending on the rim, of course). or a 215/40-16 could be had as well - just depends on the offset of the wheel. if your car is stock height - a 205 isnt going to sit under the fender. when you lower it, negative camber will come into play and it will tuck in - again, depending on offset. |

for some reason i already have negative camber in the rear and my current wheels barely sit under the fender not insde of it, but then again i dont think i have a 42mm offset.
the BUddy Club wheel that i posted isonly 17lbs at 205/40/17 The enkei RSF2 that are prviously posted were like 20lbs, i know its only 3lbs but i am told that makes all the difference in the world when it comes to wheel weight. does anyone know y my REAR would be sitting 1 1/4" from tire to fender and the front is over 3" from tire to fender? i have 200lbs in the trunk but i am told that doesnt make a difference since that is average weight of a person sitting in the back seat could it be my rear shox are jsut worn? Also what kind of SHoX did u get when u replaced ur springs? |

200lbs in the trunk will lower your car a bit......thats probably making the difference. is that 200lbs including your spare/tools?
3lbs is quite the difference in wheels......not to mention the buddy club wheels look a lot better (imo). i dont have aftermarket shocks.....i havent driven/seen my car in almost 6 months so im not too worried about it right now. (its in FL, im in socal, waiting for a garage so i can ship it here). however i cant decide if i want to go with a full coilover setup like teins or if i just want my dropzone coilovers w/ koni yellows..... |

ive had them for months......bit stiff, but no problems with em.
id rather have GC's.....but since GC's are $$ and i only paid $92 shipped for a set of new DZ coilovers, i cant really complain. |
