nice, 14's should be easy if you up the boost a tad bit and nail some good 60foot times.

reaction times? Where? The 60 foot times arent too great. Definately need some practice there. I have cut a 2.13 60 foot on stock factory 13" rims with stock tires on my D16Z hatch. Cut a better 60 foot, push a few more pounds of boost and u will definately be in the 14's.

i know my 60' wasn't the best since i pulled a 2.3 before (still isn't the best but better). i was runnin' stock tires on stock steelies and unfortunately it was dusty at the tracks, probably because its been raining. i also did not bother to do a burnout so that may have contributed to my not so great 60' also your d16z hatch is lighter than my 99 coupe..
i don't know the exact number but it was warm out that day

ohh yeah I forgot to mention I had a Phantom Grip LSD in the tranny. Its not really a good LSD but I guess it helps a little. As far as the times goes its just practice, and proper susension tunning. Practice makes perfect. Lots of people go to the track and spin tires out of the hole and think its fast. Spinning tires SLOWS your times down. I have spun 10-15 feet out of the hole on a shitty track (my first run) and still managed a 2.4. The object is to keep the tires on the verge of breaking loose, but yet still retain traction. My best 60' time was on 80 degree weather, track was very hot and sticky. I dropped the clutch at 4,000 RPM if that tells u how hard she hooked. That run was a 14.9 if I rememeber right. Not my best ET but my best 60 foot. My best ET to date with that car is a 14.8 @ 94 MPH. That was in 40 degree wether and I pulled a 2.20 60 foot on that time. As far as 60 foot times I dont think its all that impressive. People are running 1.90-2.10's all day long on 15" rims with Falkien Azenis tires on hatchbacks. |

went to the tracks again and here is my current best time.... same setup as before just better driving.
BEST RUN of the night (7/27/04) 60' 2.304 330 6.446 1/8 9.805 MPH 74.08 1000 12.683 1/4 15.138 MPH 91.66 if i can trim my 60' to at least a 2.2 i'm digging into a sub-14 second 1/4 mile on stock steelies and suspension! that night i managed to beat a spec V with I/H/E and a stock GS-T

thanks for the support! i wanna keep the boost conservatively low because i still have the stock steelies and they wouldn't grip anyways, and this is my daily driver so i can't run the risk of blowing it up, yet.....
once i get my oil cooler and i beefed up my drivetrain i will definitely crank it up....

turn up the boost, just feather the throttle more. Its all in the driver whether he can control it or not. Anyone can drive a slow car, its when u start making some decent power when driving skils really come into play.
There is as guy running around with a 2004 SRT-4 neon. He has the stage 1 kit from mopar, intake, and exhaust, and he is running 18 pounds of boost. On the dyno he made 261 WHP, and 282 ft-pounds of torque at the wheels! Its funny cuz he still cant beat me on the street! Theoretically he should absolutely slaughter me. I mean I only have intake and exhaust and traction bars on my H22 hatch, and the car is running seriously rich (walbro fuel pump). I would guess I am only running about 210 flywheel horsepower and he is running roughly about 300 flywheel horsepwer or so, and gobs more torque than I. He just cant hang. From a roll he would murder me but anyone can race from a roll, he just cant touch me from a stop to about 100-120 MPH. I have 1 car to 1.5 lengths on him by 50 MPH. The rest of the run he trying to play catch up. He just cant do it by quarter mile mark. So as u can see its all in the driver. I cant wait till I go boost. He will be in serious trouble. Good luck man. |
