Have you checked to make sure you don't have any holes in it ? Sometimes they rust away to nothing.
I had a whole a while back in my OEM exhaust and it was loud as h*ll |

a rust hole would be my guess. is it like an aftermarket catback or is it an oe weld-on job? if you installed a catback, its possible a bolt came loose or maybe you missed a bolt, etc.
i know long ago it was super cold outside and i had just started my car and was backing out of a space, and at the same time some dumb chick decides to back out into me. I had to floor it and dump the clutch to avoid getting slammed, anyway right after that it seemed like I had blown a hole in my muffler. it must've already been ready to go and that last maneuver did it. |

you can do that yourself. get a coffee can or maybe a soup can, cut it down the middle so you can slip it over the pipe, go to home depot and get 2 or 3 hose clamps of the right size and clamp it down hard. if you don't want to do that, auto stores sell exhuast repair kits, but i've never used one. if you end up with rattle problems, clamp some thick peices of leather along with your coffee can repair. it usually helps. |

I believe for an OEM one for the cost of it plus install its well under $100. My 94's muffler is a real piece...The whole bottom is just opened up with this big gaping hole...I know its bad but until I get the go-cart running so I can sell it and get a cat-bacK I dont want to let my parents just waste money putting on another oem one.

hahaha After totalling the car and with plans to sell in in august before school there is no point in me looking for another car. Not to mention my insurance would be sky high, in the area of 20-25k/year. So I'll stick to my high end bikes. |

its not worth $175
And its certainly not worth that since its midas... man if Ihad my old muffler I'd let you have it...Im sure you can get a used replacement for a few $ almost anywhere (online or yard) |

yeah....lifetime
When I was 16 I took my car to midas for some brake pads, which also had a lifetime warranty... I had that car back in there every 6months for new pads. Sure, the pads were free, but the labor was still $65/hr and I always got a nice little add-on to the bill of at least $40 for "shop supplies". Fuck midas...dont waste your time....and money And why would it be illegal to put on a used muffler? If it is then thats just stupid and I know a whole shit load of people breaking the law then. |

fuck midas indeed. those fools don't what they're doing, I got charged 500 for some freakin brake work that was not worth that. And after they worked on it, my brake pedal is all mushy, Plus they screwed up my rear brakes so they squeal horribley. I took it back to them and they said they were fine. whatever.
Plus that lifetime gaurantee is tempting (heck, its the reason I went to them), but its pretty much worthless. They only guarantee the pads, not the rotors, and like pdigg said, it ain't free. As far as exhaust goes, read the fine print. They only replace the muffler (and it will go bad in less than a year). Piping is not covered, which is of equal quality of the mufflers they use. why not consider an axelback or even a cheap catback exhaust? check this link I found after 2 seconds of googling: http://www.speedyperformanceparts.co...-system_z.html I know pacesetter sucks, buts its better than paying 200 for a crapass midas job, AND its a full "performance" catback, AND you can install it yourself, AND it might help up your resale value if your selling it. ^^seriously consider this! |

DUde, the auto shop didnt even want my stock muffler when I replaced it with the greddy evo-2. I just told them to keep it just in case so they did. The stock mufflers are worth sh1t. My friend wanted my axle back to sell it on ebay for 99cents. Guess what no one even bidded on it.
My car is a 2001 civic and the muffler was still good. You couldve gone to a junk yard and got it for 10 bucks or so, stock mufflers are worth a penny for all I care. Oh yeah he didnt even want the stock b-pipe. Anyone think the stock catback system is worth any money let me know... |

In my opinion I think you made a bad decision. my only problem is that the products that they use are not designed to last long.
my girlfriend needed a new muffler and piping on her del sol, so I told to hold off and I'll find her a catback on ebay or something. Well she didnt listen and went to midas, and got their crap exhaust. I told her that was a waste. Not even a month later the pipe coming out of the muffler was horribly rusted, and it won't take long for the rest of it to follow suit. but also, I can't offer a cost-feasible alternative. You could go with pacesetter catback or some other cheap system for 200-230. but it will rust out too, maybe not as fast. you could go with a stainless steel system from an exhaust shop but then you're talking 600+. myself, I went with an apexi catback for $460, and I loved it on the civic. do what you like man, if you're gettin rid of it then its not your problem. |
