I've been around a lot of engines, and I still get a little lost sometimes. When you think you know them, you start getting confused when they throw in JDM codes, which are different, but are almost the same. Take b series engines for example. I have a del sol vtec, which comes with a b16a3 160hp. This engine is a dohc (dual over head cam) and it has vtec. But we swapped it to a JDM del sol engine, which is a b16a 170hp, with no 3 behind it. The difference is hp and torque. Then, the civic si has the b16a2 160, which is almost the same thing also. A jdm civic type r engine code is b16b 185hp, which is a different, more hp engine. Then you have the integras, which are b18c - JDM integra SiR-G 180hp, b18c1 - USDM GSR 170hp, and b18c5, which is the type r integra 195hp. There is the rare b18c6/7 which is a jdm 96+ integra type r 200hp. There are LOTS more, I just don't have time right now. I'll get back to ya.

I found a list that's easy to look at and see what's what. Go to TorontoRacing.ca and click on TECH. you'll see the link to click on in yellow. That's one of the most complete lists I've seen. Hope that helps.

the numbers on the codes tells you how many liters they have. B18 = 1.8 liter
H22 = 2.2 liter

All B's are dohc...

almost all D's are single (except rare jdm "zc" engine... however not all "zc" engines are dohc).

H's are dual

F's are single...

they're basically just designation letters... the first letter
B18c1
D16z6
H22a1

shows the engine block code... So parts between all "d" series engines are interchangable (sometimes with work).

It basically means that all engines stamped "b" will accept a head or tranny from another "b" series engine. and probobly a lot more parts too...

the numbers as mentioned denote displacement.
D16y8 1.6 liters
B16a3 1.6 liters
H22a 2.2 liters

the last part is the head/gen code...

D16y8 96+ civic ex motor (sohc w/vtec)
D16z6 92-95 civic ex/si motor (sohc w/vtec) Same block but different heads...
B18c1 94+ integra gsr motor (dohc w/vtec and dual stage intake runners)
B18c5 94+ integra type R motor (dohc w/vtec)

Oh and sorry for the OT... but

"girlsolracer"

Why in gods name would you "swap" basically an identical engine with some factory tuning? that doesn't seem like a very cost effective 10 hp.

Um, maybe cause the original engine was shot. And if we had to change it anyways......why not go for the 10 extra hp? It pretty much fits, and we got a really good deal on it. Along with some GSR parts and Integra Type R parts. They all work really good together.
