drag launch question
I guess this one may be mainly for dereks civic hehehe :
I took my sol to the track and the time kinda disappointed me. I ran a 10.7XX@65.XX I know that it is because I don't know how to drive this car to it's full potential yet. I went from a rear wheel drive truck to my sol. I guess I am not launching at the right rpm, that race i believe it was at 2700 or so. I didn't have much wheel spin but I found my self wayyyy out of the powerband. I found myself around 3000-3500 rpm and it was very sluggish till it got up to around 4500 or so. Once in the powerband it motored like all hell. What rpm do you, or other b16 owners, launch at? On a side note, that race I was up against a 95 or so 'lude. He took me off the line but when I was screamin up to 8200 rpm I passed him up like nothin'. My et was better by 4 tenths. blah blah blah she get it from 'er momma |

2200 rpms should be good enough without burning the clutch. i don't know dude but i think your car is in the need of a tuneup

You can launch in the 3000 range as long as you're not getting too much wheel spin. This is harder on your clutch (as you know) though.

Sure I could launch at 2200 but I'm waaay out of the powerband then. 94Accord: Yeah I definately know it's harder on it... At the track when a good amount of the civics get up to race I can hear them bouncing off the limiter when they are staging. I wonder if those guys are launching from redline and controlling wheel spin with the clutch |

I'd only rev @ redline if I had an ignition controlled spark limiter instead of a fuel cutoff. Much safer, though it still isn't great for your engine. I'd try to practice the lower RPM ranges first unless you really feel the need for the higher RPMs.

Sorry I got on this one a little late....I just got home from the weekend outta town. I usually (i don't race too often) launch from the 2500-3000 RPM band. I usually have a little wheel spin but not too much. I don't have great tires and they usually grab pretty well. Actually I think dumping your clutchis different from car to car. Try just untill your satisfied with it. I say around 3K rpm. I think that werks for me just fine. As for redline clutch drop. I wouldn't do it unless I had an upgraded clutch and changed my fuel cut off. Just keep trying at it till ya get it bro.
