Too High a $ for paintjob???
My Integra's an rs, so my side mirrors are both black, and I have the black side "strips" on both sides of my car.....I want these mirrors and side strips painted white to match my car. The body shop near me wants $150 to paint these things, But that seems really high for just 2 mirrors and 2 side strips. Any clue how much this really should cost, I'd like to know before I dish out that kinda money.

That doesn't seem totally unreasonable. How many coats/clearcoat? That would factor into the price.

I'm not sure how many coats, but they said that all they do is sand off the surface first, put on the primer, and then put a "couple" coats on. I don't understand how that'd be $150 worth. I could understand maybe $100 but I dunno. And they said if any Armor-all wuz on it prior to me having it, it could cost even more to paint it.

I've got to say, if you're at all concerned about the price, stop by another body shop and get a second estimate. Should only take you a few minutes, and you'll have something to compare.

I asked a close friend who painted my wing, how much he'd charge if he were to do it, and he said probably $150 too...I guess I'll have to pay that much, but thats still a bit high. Oh well, I'm doin that on monday i guess

Don't forget they need to totally prep the entire car first too, that takes time and money. And If thier gonna match the factory paint, and use factory quality clearcoats... $150 is not soo bad.
Good luck with it, Post a Pic if you can, Patrick 4jacks

Yeah, but they're only doing sidestrips and mirrors. They don't touch the rest of the car, do they?

I shoulda said they still need to tape Everything off. Basicly to do the mirror and the Side strips, the whole car needs to be wrapped. Patrick 4jacks |

Really? I always thought they'd just remove the parts that needed painting.

Maaco = 100% crap paint job. That should answer your question. To get my front bumper slightly repaired and painted (insurance job b/c someone backed into me)... it was somewhere between $500-$600 (I forget exactly).

for 225 you get a warranty on the paint for 6 mos only. my moms car was done at maaco and it looks really really good. i wouldn't say they are crap. As for removing the parts it's almost impossible, since they are glued to the car (not the mirros tho) when i smashed my mirror and i took the stub out i had to take it with some paint chips off.

my grandfather had his caravan maaco'd and the paint is literally falling off the car. poor job.
btw. i had a minor wreck on my front bumper (about 10 mph) that cost about 4,000 insurance to repair... course we also took it to the best body shop in oklahoma. i checked there to get my side strips painted... just the strips they said they would tape it off not remove the strips btw and it would be 200 just for that! 150 is a good deal if they are taping it off and using quality paint and good workmanship. |

mirrors, are held on by a couple bolts. they are just removed to paint. side moldings are held on by clips (if they are anything like the civic side moldings) not glue. easily removed from the car. and big deal if Armor All is on the pieces. all they have to do is sand it down and then move on with the rest of the paint process. seems to me like those guys are idiots if they are gonna charge you more due to Armor All on plastic

oh :o
my side moldings are just held on with some plastic clips that you just pinch together from the inside with pliers and they pop out. |

$150 is probably not bad when you factor in prep time and all. but the armor all thing??? if sand paper can't get armor-all off then i wouldn't worry about painting the mirrors, i'd just add a new coat of armor-all i'd hope that they would remove the mirrors to paint them if at all possible, which i'd assume they can be, to avoid overspray and so forth. i'd check around and see what other shops say, you never know.

Yea.. maxlva said it already.. but they dont take nothing off, the just tape the hell outa the car, either 1) thier lazy 2) they own stock in Scotch 3) Liability's if they damage stuff taking it off
Probably a combination of all three

My opinion? Shave the MOFO'S! It cost me 200 to get my mirrors and moldings body matched on my old Preude. It was 4 moldings, 2 mirrors and the hood cowl though. 150 isn't bad.
