Tein HA's discontinued... how about the Tein SS?

Well, I called up the shop to order a set of HAs for my car yesterday, and I was informed that they were recently discontinued for my model. That's what I get for waiting so long to order I guess.

Anyway, they've been replaced with the SS model. I wanted the HAs because they had a minimum drop of .4", and the SS has a min. of 1.4", which is a little lower than I wanted to go.

How do these models compare? The SS sells for about $50-$100 cheaper than the HAs did.

I want a set of true coilovers, and I like that these are 16 way adjustable. I just want to have some opinions on the SS vs. the HA.

I dunno man. I know that the SS is the only Tein system available for my car. I have a chart at home that shows comfort, race, and a couple other settings and stacks up the different Tein systems in each category. I can't remember where they lined up, but I could try to find it and post the info if you'd like.

It's in a small Tein brochure, though, so you may already have it.

Very cool JP!

I'd like to know if it handles like a sport suspension or if its a softer setup.

I've gotten different numbers from Tein (two different number, with 2 diff. emails), shops, etc. What is the actual minimum drop on the SS. I'm worried it will look bad with my stock wheels.

I basically just want to know how your friend likes them for everyday driving, if the handling is great, or if the ride is too harsh. Some general impressions.

I'd really appreciate it JP!

Don't worry, there's no big hurry. I really appreciate this though.

I typed all of this down while my buddy was talking..

"The SS's are really good! The shocks are 22way ajdustable and at the highest setting it's a comfortable ride. I've taken the car to the track with them and the car hugs the road with no problem. I have them lowered to ~1.8" and that's perfect for me. The spring rates are lower than some other coilovers out on the market, but what people forget are that it's a complete
system that works together.

We did a test this summer in Ottawa.. My Accord with the TEIN SS's, and another guy's Accord with GC coilover sleeves and custom springs, rates higher than my SS's. Both of our settings were set to the max, and when ever we hit a curve or a bump on the road we noticed that HIS car would *bounce*, where as my car with the TEIN's would nicely drift over the bumps and curves. I'm happy with the results that I got.

Yeah..you have to watch it. The www.TEIN.com site has false information. I remember seeing a disclaimer on their site saying that their information could be wrong. Use the JP (lol thats my name.. sorry back to the topic..) site as a source. for my Accord, the min drop is 1.3"

TEIN SS= great buy. Personally, I hate the GC's I've seen and heard of too many people having trouble with the GC's. Their system to raise/lower the spring is aweful (using one lug nut to loosen/tighten all). And I don't consider them to be a coilover
system...but rather a coilover sleeve..IMO, i just don't like them. "

Oh and Trev, this guy is a suspension god. He's the one I turn to when I'm in doubt...

Good luck bro!
JP

Oh man, JP, that helps me out SO much! Thank you, and please tell your friend thank you when you talk to him again.

That is great info, and I like the fact that its coming from a suspension god with an Accord. Softer spring rates are ok by me as long as it performs. After all, its not a race car and will be my daily driver. ~1.3" should be perfect for me also.

Thanks again JP!

This guy got them in early spring.. His fiance's sister(how lives in Japan) ordered them, and she shipped them to Canada.

He said thats its possible that the shocks min ride height might have been modified.. But it isnt very likely. If you're able to navigate on the http://www.tein.co.jp/ website, then you're set.. Otherwise you could always write them (japan) and e-mail to know if the current version still sits at 1.3..

Always glad to help..

This is the first I've ever seen a claim that the SS's are 22-way adjustable, I've only ever seen 16-way adjustable. Are you sure that's right?

I've been reading 16 way...

The www.tein.co.jp site doesn't have the SS on it. The SS is a US version of the HA system after they decided to kill the HAs in the US for Hondas.
