how does it stay cool?

When you supercharge your car, how exactly does it stay cool? I know turbo you can use an intercooler.. can you use one for supercharged vehicles too? i think I am going to go with Jackson racing supercharger for my 03 civic si when it comes out.. turbo just sounds too complicated. :o

JR has nothing...on late hondas anyway...maybe for your si

usually superchargers dont put out that much boost so it doesnt get heated that much, not to mention its not running right off the hot ass exhaust manifold like a turbo.

but it still gets fairly hot...which is a downside to a supercharger compared to a turbo..

Turbo just seems so complicated : wastegates, BOV, intercoolers, Turbochargers, etc... i don't even know what half that stuff does... ... i'd rather just have a more reliable system than power really.. I doubt i'd even want to go any more fast than what a supercharger can do for my engine. I don't wanna kill myself. :o

supercharging is just as dangerous to a car as a turbo...dont let anyone tell you different.

it is reliable...it is ALL in the tuning

turbo's arent complicated though...if you take just 30minutes Im sure you could learn what everything does...if not a basic understanding

actually, I think.. in my honest opinion, that turbocharging is the same, if not more reliable than supercharging. Especially with the Jackson units (not Vortech), I've heard some freak stories of the superchargers.. and no customer support. If you buy from Garrett, or Turbonetics, you're alteast guarantee'd some good backup.

And honestly, turbocharging is a lot easier than what you may concieve it to be.

^ But a lot of people say the same thing... that HAVE turbo... I bet someone with supercharge would say only good about it and maybe bad about turbo... i guess it depends your preference, but does anyone have any actual articles about things that have gone bad with turbo and super??? That way I can compare and think it over more thoroughly...

I guess they are both pretty equal in terms of "freak accidents" or parts gone wrong. I think if you search google, you'll find a crapload of storys of people that have had things break on them.

I find that with turbos, I find more stories of users ****ing things up, going over the limit of the turbo, pressing for more and more boost.... nothing in regards to the turbo itself fu*0ring up.

I kinda dropped the idea of a supercharger after I realized its limits.

Its up to you to do the research and come up to your own conclusion. I wont say that a supercharger is bad.. but it just .. isnt the greatest.

as long as you don't past the suggested boost on a turbo/supercharger, you should be fine..i think that's the only reason that people f*ck up turbos is they go past the suggested boost level and did not properly tune their car... but i think turbo is more complicated than a supercharger only if you plan on goin' past the suggest boost level and tuning is required.

just a side questions here...anybody knows how the insurance people would handle a car with turbo or supercharger?? would the payments increase or what? if i ever go forced induction i'd have no choice but to let my insurance know, i don't wanna risk loosing insurance because i have turbo/supercharger...

heh, yes, you'll have to claim it. Your rates will sky-rocket, that is.. if they'll even insure it. Not too sure on their particular policy.

why in gods name would you report a turbo to your car insurance other than if it's a stock turbo car?

I never told them I had cams...

It's none of there business... insurance is for theft and accidents... so unless you want the turbo pieces covered I would DEFINATELY not report it to your insurance...

they'd have NO idea what to do other than demand it's removed or drop you.

it may be hard for you to get reimbursement for your vehicle at the cost that you paid if you don't claim it. if you have a car stolen, a claims adjuster will check the average market value of your car and they will compensate you for that amount. now if you have a $4000 civic with a $10000 motor, don't expect to get anything but the $4000.

So you'd prefer to pay TWICE as much insurance just IN CASE you crash your car...

If you crash chances are most mods can be pulled off and re-used..

If you request an "actual value" insurance coverage you'll pay out the EAR.

They'll probobly make you do a higher deductable anyway which will eat up the extra money you're insured for...

There is just about NO reason to report your cars mods to your insurance... it's NOT required at all... only if you want to get it all covered... then IF they will you WILL pay WAY WAY more than you are now...

Probobly so much that if you had just squirelled that money away you'd have more than the payoff when and IF you do crash it...

oh, there is no way that i would claim the motor and stuff, i'm just saying thats what would happen if you didn't have it. once you start putting money into a car to race, then it's your own risk for something like that. now if i were building a show car, that'd be a little different.

ok...let's pretend i have a turbo on my car and i got in a car accident (hope that never happens) wouldn't the insurance drop me on the spot? because i put on an aftermarket turbo?

They'd drop you if you were at fault and going really fast but they'd do that turbo or not...

they woule NEVER have an opportunity to find out you have a turbo..

they might still drop you though... Insurance places will try to get away with paying at ANY chance they get.
