Prelude engine swap

I've got a 91 Prelude Si that I recently aquired and I found out that it had a bad engine, which is kinda good and kinda bad to me- good because it means I have the oppurtunity to find a better engine. I'm looking at a 94 non-Vtec engine right now and it's close by and possibly cheap, (I'm def. low on dough), and I just wondered if anyone had info on how to swap the engines. I'm pretty sure it needs no mods but does need a mount kit, and my biggest question is if anyone knows where to get one, and about how much they cost; that'll determine whether I go out and get a new engine.

its the same difficulty as swapping a h22 or a h23 into a civic. you have a b20 in there (no not the good b20) which has b serise mounts. the mounts alone you'll be looking at $600ish. if your still interested i'll see what info i can get. BTW welcome to the board, im chris.

what chris said. plus if u decide to put the h series engine there you are looking at a new suspension too. the cheapest on that you could find is at least 550.

I was looking online at engine mounts and stuff and a lot of them were for like around $400, the engine isn't actually an h series engine at all, it's the F22, and yeah they said you needed mounts but new suspension? Why is that? Really I'm only looking to spend like $800 tops, so I might be just better going with getting the same engine, it's actually a B21 I have in there right now which is better than the B20, it's got a lot more torque but anyway I found a used one for $650. thanks for the help guys

f22 isnt really worth the trouble. whats your hp for the b21? i dont think its any more than 140... you may wana look for a b18 long block. your current tranny should work.

B18 long block, what's the horsepower on that? Yeah my b21 has 140 horsepower- would I need engine mounts for that? The reason I'm interested in the F22 is just because I can get one for cheap and I think it's still got more hp than my b21. I basically want to go the cheapest route, I mean I really want a car that's fast but I just don't have the $$ right now. The b21 I have now has lots of mods that I could change over to the other engine, but I probably wouldn't use them all because I think the kid before me overdid it on them, the fuel is burning really rich. that's besides the point though

plus I was just looking at the engine swap sheet I've got, and it says why put a B18 in a 3rd Gen Prelude, which usually means there's no point because the engine you have in is just as good or better.

the f22 isn't great for performance but it is very durable. i looked up your year and your b20A5 makes 135 hp according to chilton's while the f22a1 makes 125, f22a4 makes 135 and f22a6 makes 140 hp. where is the gain ? plus the added weight

tq gains... the b18 vtec has 170hp.. thats more than the b21 you have. hoestly that b21 isnt the same quality of the crv b20. the f22 dosnt have alot as far as internal work is concerned, its sad, the 3rd gen prelude dosnt have much for it..... you may wana bite the bullet and go with a h serise...

eh, it just seems like too much trouble and guesswork to be putting a hybrid engine in, I think I'll just go for another B21, I just don't have the time or money to do something extra- Maybe someday, but for now college and all is more important, I probably should have looked around longer and tried to find a CRX Si, which is what I really wanted, although I love Preludes. Thanks for all the info guys- I'm sure I'll be back sometime with more questions

actually- here's another one- if I were to find a crv b20, would that bolt right into my car? You said that that one is better than the b21 I've got in there. Would that be a good idea?

um./.... im not a 3rd gen prelude pro;... but i belive so. 'll see what info i can find before you buy that motor. and with that engine, you can always buy a b-serise vtec head and drop that on it.

quik question on the engine model #'s. Which engines have what specs? I'm clueless on the model numbers and if they are SOHC or DOHC and the HP ratings and which cars they can be found in.

d-serise SOHC
b-serise DOHC
f-serise SOHC except the f20 s2k engine and i think a rare f23 jdm engine
h-serise DOHC
ZC-DOHC its an engine without a serise but its sorta like the b18 ls engine but more performance oreinted and its a 1.6

BASIC rundown of engines

d16- 98-127hp depending on modle
zc 140hp
b16 160
b18 (gsr) 170
b18c5 (itr) 195
b18b (ls) 135
b20 (crv) 140 i think...?
f22 125-140hp
f23... not sure its from the newer accords i belive
h23 160
h22 190-200 deending on year and origian or country. if you need more of a breakdown, i'll do it, but thats a basic un under 20 word explanation. i can give you 3 pages of engines if you need it

yeah most honda engines have its a# b# c# z# y# etc so i could have 3 pages of engine codes with hp and tq readings that will make you go crosseyed, and if anyone wants it, i'll find it for ya. mine was the ultra super simplified version off the top of my head.
